Odd thing is, it mentions adapters for MS, but not MS Duo... That would be a problem.

well, instead of putting a micro drive inside which might consume lot of thier battery... i personally think that this might be a alternative way for new P-series to save thier data into.

Cheers

Exactly, If the new one does take the new micro it will be a pain, You will have to transfer everything to the PC, then on to the new micro drive, and then also purchase all your apps again because the new P series does not run the curent symbian apps. Proper con. I'll still get one though, thats the problem with SE/Sony fans, we all get stuffed and always come back for more.

the smaller media drastically decreases the size, weight and cost of the phone. Imagine if the K750 took a full size MS?

It was the same situation when the Duo memory came out, but if we want smaller devices there is a cost to pay....

Yhe I agree, no fone shud take a MS the size of a NORMAL MS, but what about DUO - surely the ARE small enough for any current/future device - rather than make us all buy a new format

not necessarily - in the future most phones will be 3G or better (whatever is next), they will be smartphones and they will need to be even smaller.

Also, it's the reduction in weight and cost that makes these smaller formats useful for SE to incorporate, not just the size. I agree it's a pain when formats change, but it's just one of those things, like pulling teeth. When it's gotta be done it's gotta be done

I really don't agree. Everyone knows that smaller memory means bigger price tag. Look at the prices of MS to MS Duo. Surely the MS MC will have an equally inflated price compared to the two "older formats".

I don't think phones can practically get much smaller! unless you want a teeny tiny phone! I think the weight is insignificant compared to MS DUO and MS MC, who would notice the difference of a few ounces.

the memory card is only one little part of the phone. All other parts are miniturised as well, and it is the sum total of savings gained by miniturisation that allows manufacturers to build cheaper phones.

It is also miniturisation that allows them to keep adding new funky features while maintaining the same size handset (ie: adding more without making it bigger)

How much do you think SE get per phone anyway? It's probably only a few dollars, so for them every little saving (even a few cents here and there) really makes a difference to their profit margin. The price saving can also appeal to Telco's, who buy phones by the thousands.

The end user may not see the direct benefit in terms of the cost of the handset to them, but the savings that SE make allow them to offer better phones.

The reason the new format's are more expensive to purchase aftermarket is the same as any OEM - they always try to make a higher margin on the accessories market than their core business. It's standard business practice.

I do actually agree with you on this one point, that accessories are highly priced and price many people out of that market (the Car-100 for example costing $100! Highway robbery. I still bought one though!! Check what I did to it: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=94140&start=30 )

However if the accessories market was more affordable, their phones would have to be more expensive, so it all goes around in circles. I'd rather cheaper phones.

um, other memory card makers have made smaller "micro" cards as well have they not?

Eesh, I bet this same argument was had when MS duo came out. "but we don't need a smaller, more expensive one!" "We do! it saves space!" ..

Smaller cards can be good, think of a K600, but with room for a 128 or 512 card in it. (I would presume micro cards won't be too large in capacity)

Price is going to suck, until they've been out for a while, but i don't think there's too much call to panic yet.
