brrrr, after reading all that, I wouldn't dare updating, not in my lifetime! SE's support seems to me a bit unsupportive I guess they should be adding more info on every single aspect of updating the firmware, it's like you're lost in the fog when trying to...
Prove me wrong, but is it normal for us users, who paid money for their phones, to try to figure out ourselves what we should do when having such problems?
To all of you guys having problems updating the firmware, my advice: e-mail SE's support, that's their job answering your questions.

good luck!

Users in the Philippines...

We can have it flashed for free (assuming you have legit warranty) at Smartnet (Buendia) and Sony Ericsson Service Center (Greenbelt) if this problem persists.

those with problems, do you have in your update folder a file called Sony Ericsson Update Service v1.19.tmp ?

and if so, what is inside it, is it only 1K in size? please open it with notepad and paste the contents here.

I got the communication error problem around 4 - 5 % into the update. However it may have been the fact that I shifted the phone from my lap onto the table... and the connection may have been momentarily jolted. Phone wouldn't come on after that... but after 2 attempts at Recovery mode, it updated.

I also noticed that it updates slowly till around 50% then after that it jumps to 100% then update completed.

So far I have compared the S/W info provided and everything seems to match a correct update, except it reads

ITP CXC 125 932 R1 B and not ITP CXC 125 932 R1E

What does that mean? Something not updated?

Update: I've tried flashing to another region using DaVinci, and it works. I have a functional camera. I used K750i_R1L002_MAIN_EU_EMEA.DVT, K750i_R1L002_FS_EU2.DVT, and CDA102337/10 - Europe2 as my Main, FS, and CDA files, and my phone functions again. However, upon trying to update my phone with SEUS, the same thing happens. It appears that this problem is hardware specific, as it doesnt matter what firmware was on there previously, and i have done multiple master resets and such. The firmware i flashed to before trying to update again supposedly upgrades successfully, as experienced by multiple users in other forums. But again, it wont work in mine. So....i think we may have to wait for SE to realize they made a mistake, or have to wait for DaVinci team to catch up and put the latest firmware up for flashing.

After more experimentation, here's what i've found:

I tried doing a flash with DaVinci, NOT finalizing. Of course, my phone now says "Configuration error" upon powering up, so i try "recovery mode" in SEUS. This time, it WORKS and flashes everything correctly. I have a SIM lock, so i have a chance to enter in the *<*<<*<* whatever string to see the software, and I confirmed that the SEUS update worked. But of course, now....I CANT GET INTO THE PHONE because its not finalized!! I have to reflash with DaVinci and use up a credit to reflash and finalize to an older firmware, and try the SEUS update again.

I'm gonna be so angry if the SEUS update fails after all this. Its either I have a phone that doesnt have the camera working with the new firmware, or a completely updated, but useless phone because its not finalized.

I'VE FIGURED IT OUT!

I just finished this, so I am not 100% sure it's ok yet, but...here goes. You will need your K750i, the sync cable that came with it, and 1 DaVinci Log Credit.

Before you do anything, put a SIM lock passcode on your SIM card. You'll understand later.

1. Get DaVinci remote unlocker 13.7

2. Flash your phone to R1L002 (I used K750i_R1L002_MAIN_EU_EMEA.DVT, K750i_R1L002_FS_EU2.DVT, and CDA102337/10 - Europe2 as my Main, FS, and CDA). DO NOT FINALIZE.

3. Use SEUS to perform a RECOVERY Update, and it will load the R1N035 firmware onto your phone.

4. This time, it SHOULD be successful and load everything on to your phone. However, your phone is still not finalized, so you can't use it yet. But, because you put a SIM lock on your SIM card, it won't give you that "configuration error" message, and you will be able to check the software versions by pressing >*<<*<* on your phone while in the SIM passcode entry screen. VERIFY that you have the new firmware and new camera version (4.5)

5. Go back to DaVinci, make sure that you DO NOT flash your phone again to the old firmware by unchecking the Main and FS check boxes. MAKE SURE the FINALIZE box is checked. DaVinci will warn you that you are not flashing the phone, which is right. Go ahead and finalize.

Congratulations, you should have worked around this stupid SE mess up.

@dyndragon
It's good to know that you got your phone working again, and I hope that info helps other people with the same problem.
But if the only solution to work around that, is to pay davinci 10€ for one credit, I guess I'll wait untill sonyericsson fix the mess they made before I even try to update my phone.
