Sorry if this is not the topic, but someone can clarify me the diferences between series 60 and UIQ.

Will the software for Series 60 will be compatible with a smartphone with UIQ and viceversa??

Thanks in advanced, and Btw carry out with the discussion is very interesting to see two totally diferent points

Series 60 & UIQ are different interfaces for a common underlying OS..which is Symbian....The apps for S60 and UIQ are not inter-compatible

Hmm....Well...there are a lot more Series 60 phones around than UIQ ones......so theres bound to be more S60 apps....but there are more than enough UIQ apps available ..for the phones that run it

UIQ for lazy people?? i don't think so, using a stylus requieres more effort and intelligence than push a couple of buttons, besides is more comfortable

Thanks mrao, you're right I can't trust in someone who posts from a Nokia device

For continuing with this thread, does anyone have the sales figure of N90?? and it will be nice compare it with the K750's one

alexlt:

S60 and UIQ are the basically user interface program to the core symbian OS. Both are different. S60 is designed for non-touchscreen whereas UIQ is for touchscreen. However, lately s60 was modified to support touchscreen and keyboard-based device (i.e. s80 and s90 capability incorporated into s60). Same goes for new version of UIQ named UIQ3.

Unfortunately, programs written for both platforms are not compatible. Sometimes even programs written for same platform are not compatible when there is an upgrade in version.

There are many more programs written for S60 than UIQ.

K750 sales volume would be much more than N90 due to the fact that N90 is targeted at a niche market. And both are in different market segments.

Hey mib1800, I have an advise for you. Don't argue with the idiots. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.

mib, I'm just saying IF symbian decide not to support UIQ anymore (which I doubt), then SE might buy it back and go the way Nokia has with s60.

If symbian do drop support for UIQ, they won't very well be able to expect SE to pay much for it, so it'll be a fire-sale price. If however they conclude UIQ is worth something, they won't sell it. I also expect that of the symbian group, SE is the partner driving UIQ3 development, so they have the most to gain from using it.

Either way I feel SE will use UIQ3, and not s60 or WM5.

@mib1800

The swivel form-factor of the S700 enabled one side to look like a camera and the other to look like the camera's view-finder. The perfect cameraphone format. While at the same time incorporating a full sized keypad. I thought even you knew that!

It was you who said, and I quote,

"Contrast this to K750/W800. It is just a lump of monotonous block/brick like K700 before it and the T650 before it and the T610 before it."

My point is they are all designs that have been very successful

and to my last point:

Where are these sales figures you are talking about? GRRR .

Finally. Even Industry analysts are saying the N90 is a joke. Read the first article. Don't tell me you know more than the industry analysts

Face it, the blok doomed to a life of obscurity. (snigger!)
