I'm aware there's already been a thread or two on this topic, I just feel particularly vehement about it and don't believe it's had much limelight.

Am I the only person who finds this REALLY irritating? Many MP3 files I've transferred to the phone sound absolutely fantastic through the speaker playing through the media player (or even just pressing "play" whilst in the sounds menu, or choosing a ringtone). In some cases it's almost indistinguishable from a better-than-average stereo system. But then when the phone actually rings (or you change ringvolume, which previews the actual ring sound), they sound utterly horrible - harsh and very peaky treble, no bass, poor voice reproduction - what I'd expect from any "common" mobile phone, certainly not my beautiful K750i!

(Someone mentioned somewhere that it was probably the ringtones simply playing at a much higher volume than is allowed in the media player, and thus being distorted, but after much experimenting I can guarantee this is not the case)

I understand that the phone probably uses different hardware components for ringtones vs media player, but why is this necessary? I'm quite sure the ringtone could play loud enough using the media player sound quality. For me the number 1 priority/request in the next firmware update would be for ringtones to actually utilise the excellent quality of the media player. There's not much point in being allowed to use MP3s as ringtones/message alerts when many of the files I want sound perfect in the media player but like nails on a chalkboard as a ringer.

Sorry for the long rant, but as you can tell I find this as a highly irritable and serious flaw that could be easily solved. If I can cause enough ruckus perhaps SE will (forgive my naivety) hear my desperate cries for attention and throw it in the next firmware

edit: I realise how melodramatic "nails on a chalkboard must sound , but for those of you interested, to illustrate my point I've hosted a small file (400kb) here (which I'd like to use as a ringtone) which sounds fine through the media player, but as a ringtone above a volume of about 2 it really does hurt my ears.

i see your point, however i dont konw how to solve the issue, you gotta remember that the k750i is a phone, when it is recieving signals from the person ringing you it is going to take a considerable wee bit of power to do so, thus resulting in less power used to play the mp3.

thats the only reason i can think of.

All of my Mp3s play perfectly as the ringtone on my k750i. I have different ones set for individual callers and they all play at the same high quality. My Ring Volume is set at 5, maybe yours is set higher and the speaker might not be able to handle the mp3 at that volume?

Try it at 5 as this is still pretty high in volume.

Nope, as I said I've tested it extensively (at first I thought I was just hearing things but that's not the case ) and I'm certain that the volume isn't the issue.. Just compared a ringtone volume of about 2 to the maximum mediaplayer/playthroughmenu volume, and even while it's much quieter the ringtone version sounds very tinny and lacks bass.

What firmware are you using? (I'm on R1L002 EU_1)
