I believe that the firmware has a lot to do with it as well... If you search around and find folks who have upgraded their K750i's firmware to the W800i version, all of them claim that the media player sounds MUCH better and is MUCH louder even when using the stock K750i headset.

sorry, but thats just not true.

None of those reviews state much better sound quality, only a few state they think they can hear a slight increase in volume which is most likely makebeleive, or due to changes in the firmware which is a different versionnumber.

And even if they did state much better soundquality they would be wrong. The changes in the mediaplayer has nothing what so ever to do with the soundquality. Only changes are in features.

I disagree... However, I guess that only those who've done it will know for sure.

BTW, I have a W800i and all I know is that it sounds quite a bit better (and louder) than my buddy's K750i when playing the same exact MP3's off of the same exact memory stick. Seems like more is involved than just the headset to me.

there is definitely better sound output in R1L compared to R1J. I know this for sure since when I got my K750 the sound was piss poor, almost as quiet as the K700, but once I update to R1L it was all good. SE have also made this claim, in several email replies to posters on other threads.

See this post, about middle of the page (quote from it below):

Quote:

"- Standby crash fixed.
- Increased call and Media Player volume.
- Games menu operates much more smoothly.
- Smoother video playback
- General UI performance improvements
- Improvements and bug fixes to Bluetooth headset support.
- The auto focus beep sound has been changed.
- Saving a photo to the Memory Stick is now quicker.
- New MP3 folder on Memory stick
- Fixed the month names in the calendar for various european languages.
- Camera sounds are muted when in silent mode in some firmware locales (EU_1 , but not EU_3).
- Minimised Media Player icon changed.
- SMS 'to' text now black (previously white).
- A "Fully Charged" message is now displayed on screen when the phone has finished charging."

Test using audiophile music converted in high bitrate, u'll notice a slight improvement on w800.

I hope so, I just got my earphone adapter for the K750i and finally got to test it with a decent set of earphones (Shure E2c). The K750i volume is a bit weak, certainly not enough for those who like blowing their ears out. IMHO the sound is also biased to lower frequencies, some manual equalising helps bring out the mids and highs but its still not balanced for my tastes. The W800i should have better output if it wants to be worthy of being a music player. $0.02

Im using R1L if that matters.

empty, I agree with you, R1L is still not as good as I'd like, but they did bump up the audio compared to R1J.

SE pay too much attention to bleaters (people who whinge that "teenagers" are ruining their ears with loud music) and try to protect us from ourselves by making it impossible for the audio to cause hearing loss.

1. I ain't no teenager, I should be able to decide for myself
2. When my ears hurt, I turn it down for God's sake. Anyone who doesn't deserves hearing loss

Does anyone know if the remote control of the W800 to which you attach the earphones (using a standard plug) will be available as a separate accesory so I can use it with my K750?? I don't really like the earphones that it came bundled with...
