@DACHA fair enough it's very hard to spot them. Very underwhelming MWC this year and CES was too. Nothing out there that really makes me want to spend. Gonna wait for HTC and Nokia see what they bring.

Those in the US wanting the Z2 will have to wait until July. It will be available for Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. The international version D6503 supports all the US LTE bands and it will work on AT&T and T-Mobie with no issues. I will be importing mine since I don't want to wait for another 5 months.
International it is... finally jumping in, the only thing that was holding me back was the storage and SanDisk just stepped up bigtime.
Im not waiting 5 months to get this phone 1 month before the Z3 is announced at IFA. Which for all intents should be the device that we saw in the rumor thread with no bezel.. but im tired of waiting... im a holdover from 2009 its been half a decade, i thought we would get better phones out of MWC but these are ALL refreshes, but funnily enough, it was Sonys time to catch up. Samsung is clearly complacent...
and all complaining about the name... Z(0) Z1 Z2, it makes sense when you think it through.
ps: public apology about the 64bit prediction, and subsequent ram...
that sunspider score has me curious however as to what the secret sauce is.. its more than half the Z2 (with less ram and a lower spec SoC...) could the browser be that much more efficient... seriously the Z2 is ~240% slower. 397 v 952 (GSMArena Bottom of the page, last metric)

Spec wise the Z2 seems to be the best one out of the 3 new phones... most of it won't make a difference, but the stereo speakers and 3gb RAM are nice.

They are really working hard
What are you on about? The S5 has the same CPU and it's running at a faster clock, 2.5GHz vs 2.3GHz in the Z2. What the Z2 has over is the RAM though 2GB vs 3GB in Z2.

actually ive read that the S5 is using overclocked S800 and Sony is using S801 which has a higher potential cpu clock, gpu clock, new eMMC 5.0 support and faster memory bus speed. a small bump, but a bump none the less. |

Samsung postponed the better S5 later duo to issues with the new Exynos SoC manufacturing and low yield of 2K displays...
that one will have Exynos SoC, 2K screen and 3GB RAM...
But the best thing here is the first impression... most people will remember the first impression that Z2 is better than S5... even if the later came later with upgraded version as SoC and screen will not change that much
I'm still confused regarding Z2 chipset, the press kit mentions Snapdragon 801, the whitepaper says AB... Anandtech says the 801 is the AC stepping, and it's the one that comes with 2.5GHz + eMMC 5.0 standard + higher clocked GPU...
AB in the other hand has the eMMC 4.5 standard + 2.25GHz + a little bit lower clocked GPU...
I didn't saw any mentions regarding a lower clocked AC variant, only 2.5GHz...
Is it possible that Sony used 801 ( AC ) but underclocked it a little bit to have better battery life and runs cooler ?
some might say, why bothering going for AC and under-clocking it while they can have AB with lower price ?
The AC is a better stepping than AB, which is why it's able to hit higher clock speed with not that much increase in power and heat... using the same AC with lower AB clocks means the exactly same performance as AB but with lower power demand and lower heat when in load than AB + AC has the eMMC 5.0 but the last thing is not something to worry if it still uses older eMMC...
I hope Sony will move later for the newer eMMC with 5.0 and 32GB !!

The LG G Pro 2 would be better beside those two. It has SD card slot and 3 gig ram, larger screen and is newer

It is 5.9 inch screen and not 5.1 or 5.2 and it's a phablet, note 3 competitor not S5/Z2 competitor. Doesn't belong in this pairing. |

Both Samsung S5 and sony Z2 are using snapdragon s801

The problem is
1- The press kit of Z2 mentions 801
2- The Whitepaper mentions 8974AB 2.3GHz
3- AnandTech noted that the 801 is actually the 8974AC 2.5GHz... and the 8974AB 2.3GHz is the 800
There's two chances
1- Z2 actually have 8974AB which is the s800 ( not S801 )
2- Z3 have the 8974AC but down-clocked to 8974AB clocks to have better battery life than similarly clocked 8974AB
In the first case, the GPU will be a little bit slower than S5 ( by 18MHz ) and it won't have support for eMMC 5.0
In the second case, the GPU might have the same clock as 8974AC or 8974AB we don't know actually, and it will have support for eMMC 5.0
But in both cases we will not have any use of eMMC 5.0 if the eMMC it self are not eMMC 5.0...

@Xajel
I am no expert in CPU's but i took anandtech link to mean that S801 is 8974AB (like the one on Z2) and 8974AC is just a beefed up 8974AB. So it is S801 on both it is just that the one on S5 is clocked at a higher speed (frequency) |

Take a look at Anand's article on 801
