it's time for high end phone to get 3/4gb ram since 2gb ram has been a year old for that...

Yep that's why I asked the following:

Will Honami "One Sony" get 64GB internal storage option?

EDIT: Will it have 4GB RAM? Will it have 2700 or 3000mAh battery?

I think it will be in the Honami 'One Sony' : https://docs.google.com/sprea[....]QcjMwV1I5M0E&usp=sharing#gid=0 (by the way, that spreadsheet is kept up-to-date as much as is possible based on this eSato thread)

more ram = more power drain, so until you really need the performance, you wont see more than 2 GB for battery reasons. Instead we will see LPDDR3 RAM wich is more efficient and will help improve speed and draw less power

Also Android 5.0 is rumoured to be based on linux 3.8 kernel wich has a MUCH smaller memory footprint

You people seem to like to see numbers go up. Except when it comes to screen size.
4GB RAM is not at all necessary. Especially for a mobile application where power is limited.

4gb ram is too much for mobile, imo agree with -XYZ it's not necessary, although there is a high possibility that there will be on future devices, I'd rather have them put a faster type of ram and also allow you to use your internal storage as additional temporary RAM in case you do need it. Personally I only use 4gb or more of ram when I do photoshop or 3D work, and that is on a desktop computer. I don't see any reason yet trying to do that on a mobile phone since it is still a mobile phone. Optimization is the key

Faster RAM with higher bandwidth is much better than more RAM.

You can think of the kernel as a program itself - it uses some RAM.

Version 3.8 of the kernel introduced a few bugfixes which can reduce the amount of RAM that the kernel needs. I strongly doubt that you'll notice any real world difference. The bug itself was discovered when running a very technical benchmark designed for supercomputers so it may not provide much benefit here.

Also, the reason that you don't get more than 2Gb of ram on a phone is nothing to do with power consumption.

Question about the One Sony phone: Will it have a water and dust resistant body?

I saw from nighwing's document that it's rumored to have IR blaster. Now if it had IP57 rating too, that means it's truly the best of Sony...combining the Z and ZL into one phone, while improving their weaknesses like smallish battery, screen, and camera.

That's all but confirmed, the only question remaining is the one regarding the IP rating. I think the same rating as Z is the most likely one.

Those people thinking 2GB RAM is enough are a little bit short sighted. It won't be too long before mobile device computing is powerful enough for most people's daily PC work (some might say we're already there) and when this tipping point in mobile computing power is reached there will be handsets that dock to monitors and double as desktops. I think I said a couple of years ago that this is the way things are moving, at that time I said it's 5 years away (2015/16) and I'll stick to that.

We've already seen ASUS produce a number of these hybrid devices in pretty much every combination of OS and form factor imaginable. Of course phones and tablets will never completely replace desktops but for many people they will.

Desktop sales peaked a long time ago in favour of laptops, laptops have already peaked in favour of tablets. As desktops sales decline and laptops die out slowly mobile touch devices will rule the roost. The desktop experience of mouse and keyboard will need to be addressed more seriously by manufacturers by producing OEM docking solutions etc, but the tipping point as I say above is the hardware of the mobile devices needs to be able to handle everyday computing tasks (i.e. word processing, spreasheeting, database management, responsive screen mirroring, reasonable graphics output for games).

The RAM is a key component of this future, as is CPU.

Not what I have been told. Announcement in August/Sep with a release in October. (Possible that's the timeframe for US market as opposed to other parts of the world)
