I've been using my new SirfStar chipset bluetooth dongle for a couple of weeks now, and it never disconnects - much better than my old Nemerix one.
If you are buying a GPS dongle, get a SirfStar'd one.
If you are having trouble with an existing GPS dongle, check the chipset.

How have people installed this as i noticed after i bought it that it needs to be screwed in?? Is there any way around this so as to NOT damage the car??
Hi
I have one for my p990 that is stucked to the wildscreen. Works perfect. It's not only for p990, you set the width of it. I bought it in a store that sells cellphone stuff... you should be able to find one online. Don't narrow your search to only p990 when it might may you miss the ones that can handle many diffrent phones.

@Joel
Thanks for that. That seems like a more cheaper option as the car mounts are alot more expensive especially when ordering from the states... |

Has anyone had a problem with their GPS disconnecting after a minute or 2 in TomTom?
I have a QStarz Bluetooth GPS that I just brought on eBay and TomTom can see it fine and it locks and gets satellites but after a while it will say "No GPS Deice!" in the GPS Status window and the signal and connection to the GPS will go.
.....
I'm having the same problem with Qstarz 818 unit. Continuous bluetooth disconnects. Anyone found a solution to this or returning the product is the only option?
btw, anyone got Globalsat 359 working flawlessly with P990 and TomTom? How about some of you share the receiver you got working with P990? |

Returning the unit seems to be the only solution, see previous posts for recievers which do and do not work. The Holox BT-321 seems to be a favourite. |

^^ well, i wouldnt want to spend money on imposters even if some people have had a good experience with their devices. Overall, I think there are enough complaints about them in other forums.
I am particularly inclined towards Globalsat 359 and Holux 240... although I believe Holux 240 with its small antenna might not be ideal for pedestrian use.
Anyone here has experience with either of the devices and P990?

Hi all,
As mentioned by others the Holox BT-321 is an excellent product and uses the RFMD chip set which has faster acquisition times than Sirf 111 chip sets and will also get a fix on the satellite's indoors it is 36 Satellite able so to some degree is future proofed. It also has a 100hrs battery life and can even be charged in car using a Motorola mini usb charger and can now be found ob E-bay for around £30 odd a lot less than i paid a long time ago now.

100 hours? Mine says 12 hours??
Also, you can find mini USB car chargers for about £5 on eBay which will work just as well as a branded Motorola one (just to let you know ) |
