Exactly. That is quite a bit of memory for a phone to address in terms of processing power. A digital camera is designed exactly for these purposes. You do not see them trying to be phones. I think that SE tried all sizes and took the one that offered the best performance for price, for size, for battery consumption and decided that 128 is the best fit. I am also sure that we are not the only ones coming up with these ideas. The SE guys are rather clever.

Lets hope that R3G will be available in the UK soon, to sort out some of the minor bugs.

I think it might be a specific version for Asia/HK.
If not, the R3G version should be already available in SE servers... [addsig]

I just updated mine at the local SE service center. The version I got is R3F008, and it's an unbranded Asian S700i.

I'm not sure what bugs are fixed, but there is a new feature that when you swirl the keypad out, the phone automatically unlocks itself, no more keylock slider pushing.

Now, there's a good improvement!
I won't update the first post, as it seems there's a newer version: R3G [addsig]

it amuses me, in some ways, how sony are only just catching up to 6 year old technology.. i was quite surprised that my new £250 (offline) S700i holds fewer names/numbers and fewer SMS than my 6 year old Nokia 7110, that i paid £11.50 for (offline) on ebay..

come on SE, use one of these phones and realise how important the the LITTLE things are..

* on nokia 7110, you slide the cover open, it unlocks the keypad
(after all, SE do flip the volume buttons over when the keypad is open.. anyone notice that? when closed, the one nearest the centre of the phone turns volume down. when open, it turns volume up )
.. you slide it closed, it asks to "lock keys?"

* only holds 100 SMS? what's that about? i bought a phone with 64Mb memory and it only holds 100 SMS?

* 500 names? i know it's not quite a business phone like the 7110 was, but really.. with up to 150mb of memory possible, i dont the point in this low limit

* predictive texting is a bit of a nuisance, having to leave the letters and move thumbs up to the "joypad" to select a choice from the menu.. couldnt you (SE) have made the World key double up as a "next guess" like nokia do with their * key?

* why cant i change the ringtone for an SMS? even basic rubbish like 3310 had this!

* why cant i change the tones for annoying things like that horrible "battery low" warning?

* why does it say "continue" above the left soft key when im writing a text? to mea, "continue" means "continue writing your message". if you were going to make it mean "send", why didnt you write "send" ?

* why do you only show the remaining letters when i get within 20 of the end? why not show it all the time? is it really so hard?

* why does the entire phone stop doing everything when an operator reply is on show? (if youre on O2 uk, dial *#10#, a text appears telling you your balance. leave it on show and now your phone will not make a single noise all day, no matter how many other texts you get)
on nokia, this message disappears after a while. also, new operator messages override previous ones, so if i write 3 part SMS (not possible on nokia 7110, but ok on 3310) on nokia, i just press okay once. on SE, i have to press OK 3 times
I also have the option of pressing "No" (which makes no sense, but it amuses me: 'your balance is £0.02' >>NO<< ) but if i do, i could accidentally press Cancel and abort parts of my multi part sms

sony needs to make a few steps towards asking their users.. "so, users, tell us what is annoying as *!$%! about our phones?"

ps; if there is a better thread for me to post my whinings to, let me know (better == one that SE might read)

i agree with a lot of the things that you have said. if you feel that pationately about it, then email direct.
your point about unlocking the phone when you slide it open appears to have been addressed in the latest firmware update.

Just R2f008. Not sure of the bug fixes, but I hope it stops automatically rebooting.

Automatically rebooting? Thats not normal. Mine doesnt do that, infact it has never done that! Get yours looked at.
