Same here - I've worked my way through all of those handsets - used my P910i religiously for 18 months. That handset saw off a few Windows Mobile handsets that I got during that time as well (namely the MDA Compact, MDA Vario and V1605).
In terms of what the P1i offers over the P990i:
3.2 MP camera
25% reduction in size
More memory
M2 memory card
Improved desktop (an extension of the Desktop Manager available for the P910i and on the P990i)

Just so you all know i have spoken to an SE rep, The P1i is NOT THE P990 REPLACEMENT - there is a good chance the P990 replacement will be announced later this year, and i believe we are talking a seriously tricked up phone with GPS WIFI DVB-H etc... cant really say much more for now

Looks like the handsets on display had P1i on them as well - the P123 looks so old hat now!

I will just be GLAD that this won't be the P990i successor!!! I would never buy this as such!
So now let's cross fingers that SE first fixes the P990 and makes it right and then comes out by year's end with a true successor!

I have been repeating the p(700)1 is not the p990 successor for ages, finally people are paying attention. And the design will be old school p series, although much slimmer. Besides all the features already said it will have a faster processor
.
Regarding p990 vs p1 comparation, WHY people forget the single most important thing - p1 has MUCH more RAM

agreed, ares. it might be a 'next generation P series', but it's in many ways too different to be a sucessor for the p990i. as I stated before and many have observed, it's like an m600i with a proper camera. when the m600i was made available, many was dissatisfied with the lack of a camera though that was exactly the point of the M series. maybe SE decided to follow the market direction, and is abandoning the M series which had not that big a market appeal. hence the p1i, which in essence is a tricked out m600i, with a camera to satisfy those customers and rebranded to the P series. |
