But I am not sure what file has been deleted. Really weird, this one. |

What we found commonly that could be deleted/damaged is a frame. Do you have all frames and you can use all? |

@Rex:
You said it! I have lost the very first frame, Angel, and a frame named Mediterranean.
There is something else going wrong after SEUS as well. These are the ones I've noticed and there could be more:
1. The Sony Ericsson.gif got corrupted and refuses deletion. When I tried to replace it with a file of the same name. The corrupted gif automatically changed its name to Sony Ericsson_(1).gif. When I tried to replace Sony Ericsson_(1).gif, it became Sony Ericsson_(1)_(1).gif. I got as far as Sony Ericsson_(1)_(1)_(2)_(3)_(4).gif until I lost my patience to carry on. It is still there after several SEUS updates and recoveries, several master resets, and several 13 second tricks. It will be there forever!
2. The Start-up sceen and Shutdown screen got corrupted as well and no matter what I do, they are still corrupted.
3. Peacock Feathers.jpg, is blank every time after master reset - reset all. However, it could be deleted and replaced by downloading a correct one to the phone.
As CyberVisitor correctly pointed out in this thread: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=77463&start=15 , SEUS often corrupts the firmware while performing the update.

@kenski:
Will reflashing at a service point solve the problem? I must give it try then.
I have always been wondering what software and hardware SE service centers use to reflash phones. Anyone any ideas? |

Somebody told here, when he removed and put the battery back, some bugs disappeared. Though I doubt that you can get your missing frame back... |

I have been saying for some time now that there is some serious problem with the Online Update Service. I have also recommended that people are not to use it.
Your problem is exactly what many many people have been suffering from. Sony Ericsson don't seem to listen. The problem is that many many people have corrupted firmware [user interface] in their phones now, but they don't know about it since it could relate to files they are not using (like frames etc.). I have seen more important corruptions than the user interface too, some people have lost the functionality of the radio, bluetooth etc.
I have lost willingness to talk about this problem since some one here posted a note from Sony Ericsson saying it's a "hoax" that the Online Update Service [often] corrupts the firmware. Read this post!
Since Sony Ericsson states that there is no problem with the Online Update Service, and that it's a "hoax" that it corrupts phones, then I have no right to say against them - I was wrong!
But I can't stop wondering what it is that all those people out there with weird firmware have done to their phones if it isn't the Online Update Service that corrupted them.
End of story from me (I don't want any trouble with Sony Ericsson since there isn't any problems with their Online Update Service).
Good luck using their service!

@CyberVisitor
SEUS theme
When I got to know this problem, I turned to SE CallCenter. Meanwhile
on Esato - and on other sites too - I many times asked the people to check their log, or tried to talk about this problem. Nobody cared about it. Hazart was the first one, who taken effort to check his log. And there had been a newer defective k700.
I think, the solution is not that you put your head under ground, even if you have no problem with SE US. So did the others. That's the reason why SE can say it's hoax.
We have to flash light to this problem, and we have to force the people having damaged fw to mark this problem to SE as I did.
If we will be many, SE must listen to our voice.

@CyberVisitor:
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
Even though SE insists that its SEUS works fine, it is buggy by nature and that's why it is causing phones problems. I wish it had run a critical test before release the service to the public like Microsoft did on its Windows XP SP2. SE obviously hasn't done enough test on its SEUS. Anyway, I do hope that SEUS gets better so that we will benefit more from it.
I still want to know the kit that SE service centres use to reflash phones; a special software and a special interface to connect?
@Rex:
The good thing is that I rarely use frames when taking shots.
You are absolutely right that those of us who got their phones corrupted using the SEUS should actively report to SE so that it can change its attitude towards things.

The SEUS is a buggy program and it corrupts phone, the first time it erased my camera driver and all the frames, and the second time it killed, thanks to Davinci server I fixed my phone! |

Good evening, not wanting to go off topic but i would like to just say, ask any "MCSE" if windows XP SP2 if ok and they will laugh in your face. I mean come on ...... its already a standing joke in the industry. I causes no end of problems and all for a farse of a firewall.
Personally I think the SE online update is a good thing and i'm sure SE will improve it.
Cheers

MCSE's, bah! Most of them think that because they have that qualification it means they know everything! I'd like to see them do my job in my I.T. dept!
It's true SP2 has had to be patched, you couldn't expect it to be perfect but it is a step in the right direction. no other firewall will protect your PC at boot time. The Windows Firewall was never meant to replace retail firewall solutions, just to provide basic protection and that is what it does.
Also, SP2 still has a chunk of it's major update missing. I am refering to what MS calls "behaviour blocking". This is still yet to be released for Windows XP and was expected to ship with SP2 but unfortunately never made it into the final build (probably due to the problems with the DEP software). This is expected in Jan/Feb of 2005 and should mean SP2 is then the complete package.
So next time you run into an MCSE, ask them which is better:
a) Windows XP SP1
b) Windows XP SP2
c) Linux ???
If they say anything other than b then they know s**t! |
