Yep, I was told that the release date is 20th October on the website, and they are also expecting their next delivery on 20th October, so fingers crossed.

As the sales person said, the phones aren't normally that far behind once the dummies in are in-store.

They better have a great warranty. That is what they own their customers after the P990 disaster.

I've just talked with Vodafone to upgrade my phone. He said the phone will be available in two days which is on 19th October 2008. He asked me to call back on Sunday.

I think 20th October is when we will see the availibity.

Slider felt very cheap and 'gritty', but I'm guessing (and hoping!) that's just because it's a dummy model.

I really think that the phone is robust and feels like quality work by SE. The slider does not feel cheap in any way and i think that it was just the dummy. the buttons on the front is the only thing that feels a bit plastic. But its not a big thing, nothing I am thinking at when using..

First Star Software . Didn't you lot make spy vs spy ?

Yeh, should be cool playing all thos classics on X1 with big screen

what other games you make? (amstradCPC,atariST?)

Yeah we did 3 sequels of Spy vs Spy. Some others: Astro Chase, Bristles, Boulder Dash, Rockford... We really had fun...

Dude, you made Spy vs Spy?! Respect mate! And Boulder Dash!

My early days of gaming....

Yeah What a time! I still have in my attic a couple of unopen boxes but no machine to play. I retire First Star Software in the early 90's. I believe they are now doing games for mobile. That was real programing. You had to get into the machine to get the best out those 3mhz cpu's

That's true. SDRAM is fast enough to share memory for video frame or video data. The real question is why 128MB ? that's huge!!! 16MG or max 32MB is more than enough for the bit map size of the Xperia.

Only part of it is used as the main framebuffer. The rest is used for 3D rendering (Z buffer for depth), doublebuffering etc. The same reason why most PC graphics cards have triple-digit MB of RAM.

Yeah, for todays games, with all the effect, for transparencies, texture, shading etc you need multiple frames and data table for desktops computers.

But for the Xperia screen the main image display buffer with 16 bits is not even one MB, just about 700000. I don't think they have 32 bit for millions of colors but even if they do the image buffer would be only 1.5 MB. If we add all the necesary frame buffer and tables for effects I believe 32MB is enough.

Now if you are right and they use all 128MB just graphics processing OMG! the Xperia can be a monster game machine or a high level CAD

Hi Creid,
Thanks for phone definitions.
Your post brings a lot of memories. I was a game designer for Atari and other computer at that time my company was First Star Software I'm sure you remember since we had a few great hits. Definitely I will focus on the subject. Thanks.

Sorry to be completely off topic (not that sorry really, not interested in the X1!) but really, have to applaud you for Spy vs Spy. What a fantastic game that was! I'd buy it again tomorrow in any format, it was brilliant.

I used to play it on my old Atari 800XL about twenty years ago, and in fact played it so much I wore the floppy disk out! I remember being absolutely gutted when it wouldn't load anymore, and I couldn't find another copy anywhere (this was in the days before the internet, and ebay!)

Well done for having a hand in such a long lost classic!

Thank you I would love to put them in the Xperia, but I'm not programing any more. I'm going to check with my ex-partners. I understand they still making games and conversions for mobiles.

I've just learned from SE customer support that the X1 has the normal 2 year country-of-purchase warranty (except EU where warranty is EU wide) BUT...

apparantly the X1 comes with what SE call a "travel card" which grants worldwide warranty for the first 12 months!

its the first I have heard of it... has anyone heard of that before? what about the Swedish people here who have received retail units? was that included?

Yes, the travel card was included in the box I received.
There is a special phone number and a special email address for X1 support. I have called a few times and I feel quite confident that guys there have good knowledge about the phone. I got the impression that they are all using the phone themself.
