Well, that definitely looks interesting. A lot of lofty goals they're claiming. I'll keep a look out for this. It'll probably end up being a feature phone rather than a smart phone since they're building an OS from scratch (no third-party software market). It's due in first half of 2009--how elaborate can the OS be?
On the monolith page, it shows Ericsson as one of the technology partners.

the whole of Australia wont get the x1a. Only Telstra will as NextG runs on the 850mhz band.
All other networks (if they get it) will stock the x1i.
I know Telstra were testing it about 1 month ago. But they arent expecting it until late this year/early next yr. Though im assuming thats due to it being the x1a, which is scheduled to be released quite a bit after the x1i.
That's awesome news, I hoped we'd get the x1a here for that very reason. Not that I'm a great fan of telstra (avoid them whenever possible actually) but their 850 network is the only with decent country coverage atm.
I can live without 30fps video. What else is different on the x1a?

Indeed, Mizzle, but take it from me, the guys at Nokia Womworld are a LOT more free at handing out review samples than than the tightwads at SE.

And on the web walk-thru of X1 the same ppl say that the phone is a nice phone even tho it's running WM.. Well. If you're WM-hostile from the start, then it will be hard to be open-minded and make a fair review.

If you're talking about the test performed by M3 you are exaggerating. They did think that the panels were slow but not that the entire phone was "the slowest thing they ever tested".

Computer Sweden (also a part of IDG) gave it thumbs up and thought that it was quite quick.

Got my retail X1 today, and can report first impressions is that the hardware is really nice, very good quality. (you have heard that before).
The Solid Black looks really nice and slim - loving it.
The software I havent been able to test that much yet, as I got the phone like an hour ago and I am still at work. A few things that I noticed is:
* Awesome screen
* Very good build quality
* Software looks sharp - Havent been able to judge the speed really yet as I only tried the panels right after starting the phone with a lot of background stuff going on. There is a small delay when changing to and from landscape.
* Very booring package as you have seen, how in hells name can they put a ton of money on commerical for the phone and then have the box look like its from 1998.
* A bit booring contents in the package, I am especially disapointed that they didnt supply a protective sleeve or something (as with the HTC Touch Pro). Nothing more than the standard package, probably becuase they are going for the lowest possible price (?)
* It got dedicated swedish characters on the keyboard - Very very good move instead of having them as fn-keys (now 8, 9 and # is denpending on the fn-key)
* Did I mention the awesome build quality? (no more "plastic-shit-sound" that the HTC Touch Pro keyboard had).
I´ll get back to you all later!

Hi pinguino2, thanks for the information...
but this is the 3rd edition released in May 2008 ?
and X1c is supposed to be the Chinese edition (which I think SE had dropped it), not Europe?
SORRY!! I rushed ahead of myself. Please re-read my edited post. |
