doom3 played ok when i had my old geforce4 ti4200 in, was playable upto 1024x768 medium detail. works great on the new card, havent got half life 2 so not sure about that.
i know battlefield2 plays ok though its not my type of game |

19" Gateway CRT (I'd replace that with an LCD when I get some cash tbh)

joebmc, over the years the price differential has virtually disappeared.
AMD chips have a slower internal bus speed, slower fsb, and run much hotter. They are a compromise by AMD to make a chip cheaper than intel can.
Now that peeps think AMD is some sort of Chip making God, AMD have started to expect the same price for their chips as intel.
It's very smart how AMD get 3700 MHz of performance (compared to an intel 3.6GHz for example) out of a "3700" 2000MHz chip. However the trade off is heat, masses of it, and I still don't think the AMD's are as fast a Intel except in some very specific situations (such as gaming). Still for the same performance in games, the intel will run shitloads cooler. |

I have 286at @ 16Mhz, 1Mb RAM, 40Mb HDD, and VGA. It's now about 12y old. Still works like a charm. :-)
