@ Bonovox - pale ? i'd probably say more realistic.
I can remember when i compared my Satio to my N8 two years ago on this very forum. People here all preferred the Satio shots saying how much better they were and brighter colours. But all those people were wrong, the N8 did take pale shots, but thats how the scenes were. The 808 seems no different.

^ ya.. that was Nokia's approach with their jpeg processing in the N8.. and its pretty obvious that the jpeg algorithm in the 808 comes from the same "family". You can pretty punchy colors out of the 808, as I have shown in my album here:
http://www.esato.com/phonepho[....]ureview/201210082001b8jVr4.jpg
but you have to bump up the saturation really high.. and you loose quality. The 808 is very flexible.. more so than the N8.
Whatever.. they have an amazing technology at hand, and they are just sitting on it..

Whats frustrating me is the total lack of 808 phones available in the UK. Which, due to the lack of availability is pushing the price up ridiculously.

Just for the info for anybody who has friends who will be returning from Christmas vacations in India... and needs an 808 cheap
BTW its going out of stock in most of these sites.

I agree.. the 920 shouldn't be in the "pureview" family.. of course its their own brand, and they can do whatever they want, but I think its a mistake. I guess they thought they can ride the 808 wave..
The name itself came from within the 808 project, as they were finding that the pixels they were getting were noise free, cleaner.. purer.. in their own words from the white paper:
The quality is indeed phenomenal.. I am very happy with the results I am getting, in almost all conditions. I friend of mine liked a couple of pictures and wanted prints, so I printed two this morning.. absolutely beautiful, noise free.. no artifacts.. just pure prints
I also got a new lens for my DSLR.. mostly for macro photography. Its a 50mm prime .. it performs much better than my zoom, which is normal. I thought it will be fair to compare it to the 808 since it also shoots with a fixed lens. It makes you realize how amazing the lens on the 808 really is.. a prime (fixed) Carl Zeiss lens which is that wide would cost you over $1000....

And when we go to close up.. I would say the 808 runs out of steam The DSLR with it's much larger physical pixels provides a much better dynamic range, and its a bit sharper

Toshiba created this

If Nokia can squeeze this to their phones and put the 808 PV tech with it, Nokia can still produce 5mp photo out of that 20mp sensor note the back illumination may compensate the lower pixel count. It's been said that Windows Phone OS can only accommodate 20mp so perhaps a combined 808PV and 920PV techs may be nearing its time soon. Pixel binning plus OIS could be the next Lumia Pureview

My Guess Is That This New Sensor Will Equip Lumia 1001 !
What Is Your Ad Journal In September 2013 (Nokia World) !
P.S:But We Should Be Realistic And Understand That Further Not The True Replacement 808 PureView PRO (It Will Be Even In Superior NSeries N8) !!! |

Nokia and Toshiba work separately.. that is why you will never see the sensors from the N8 and the 808 in any other smartphone, even Toshiba's own devices.
So this might work as a base for a Nokia phone, but I don't think they will use an "off the shelf" sensor for their next PureView. Even the Sharp sensor in the 920 is custom made. |

@Cu015170...
Funny You Mention That Nokia Uses Cmos Sensor Sharp At 920 PureView LITE, As Far As I Know, Who Provides The Sensor Is Toshiba More Specifically "BSI T4K34" ! |

I seen on Staples website earlier today a business contract with the Pureview. Think it was business anyway.

I am not sure.. I read somewhere that it was Sharp, and I was surprised as well since they have a very close relationship with Toshiba. You are probably right..

You would most likely regret it.. most people that have the gs3 are looking for things the 808 doesn't offer, or at least not up to their expectation. Whatever you didn't like about the 808 the first time... its still there.. and it will probably feel even worse now that you are used to the gs3. But.. you can always sell it again and go back to the gs3
Personally I think that the 808 is the most complete smartphone currently on sale.. but that is based on my specific needs... I would take it over the iPhone 5 any day of the week, and the 5 is considered the best phone out there by a lot of people, so that gives you some perspective.
Love it.

Heh, someone who still agrees with me. Symbian is still the most complete smartphone solution imo.
The 808 camera simply shoves the phone into a place no other can currently touch it. What a way out for Symbian !
