Intercarrier SMS does work now. I send Cingular (SBC) to VoiceStream and AT&T all the time. I am trying to SMS to France though. Also T-Mobile, the new name for VoiceStream should be launched in SoCal in July. They will be sharing the network, but have their own carrier ID

it is defintily provider dependent.
im with voicestream and sometimes my sms get trough and sometimes not BUT when i use my german cellphone/ simcard i can always sending and receiving sms with voicestream as roamingpartner for my german provider....so now, logic told me this: with the same network it should work anyway....so i called voicestream and they told me exactly what someone above said, it should work but they dont guarantee it.
great.....
so sms between USA and other countrys using voicestream as your provider will be until further notice a question of luck...
good luck
