@alan well to truly find out whether a tower is edge enabled one must have an edge enabled phone..... Ne way i was brave enough to test it on my new 6630.....fortunatly nothing went wrong.... So alan just follow these steps... 1)first connect to airtel live trick and start downloading ne thing in ur browser. Now open ftd test & check whether ur serving cell no 48 is edge enabled or not this can be done by checking in 2 menus the first one is menu 6.1 make sure that u r downloading something in the back ground only then you will get some meaningfull data on menu 6.1 now in the DL CS/UP CS check whether a single "X" is shown if x is shown then you are using edge. . . Otherwise 1,2,3or4 will be shown in place of x then you are using gprs. . . Now head over to menu 6.12 the field you need to look here is "EGPRS support" against this field if you get "1"means you are on edge otherwise you get "0". . . . So this is how to find out whether that channel is edge enabled or not.. . . Note that the above steps have to be done again each time you have selected your new neighbouring BTS CHANNEL.. 2) now the second part that is to select a new channel.. . . . goto menu 1.3 and write down the neighbouring channel number in your case that will be 51,56,60(more neighbouring channels will be displayed in menu 1.4 and 1.5 so write down that too) now you need to convert these channel numbers into HEX format. . . . To do this open your scientific calculator on windows select the "dec" Radio button now type in the first channel number (not the serving one) then click the "hex" radio button.. Write down the hex values for each channel you wish to manually connect for example channel no 877 will have a hex value of 36D.. This is the value you have to input in menu 1.12. . . . Now goto menu 1.12 press options select execute under input value enter the hex value of the channel you want to manually select you should now be able to see the manually selected channel against the BTS TEST field.. . . Now repeat step one. . . Now if you want to revert back to normal just input "EE" UNDER EXECUTE. . . Thats it.

@Sheldon
Dude, I had tried fishing for these serials and didnt find any. Then I attempted cracking the http-tunnel client myself and I found that the serial check is all server based( just as i thought). I did crack it a lil bit to remove that 'serial key nagscreen' which shows up everytime we connect . Here is my suggestion..
Use Http-tunnel 4.03. I guess there is a bug in it which makes me connect at higher speeds. I get regular speeds of 5KBps with it although the free version should only support 2KBps. I guess EDGE mobiles should offer even better speeds with it. But when i used the latest version 4.4 RC2, the speeds were about 2 KBps only. I stopped using YF since its so unstable. So i use 4.03 regularly and another advantage is that I could download from rapidshare anytime instantly without any waiting delay thru http-tunnel.

@Zolo
Thats a gr8 find mate. By the way can u tell us where you live? I am jus curious to know if EDGE facilities are available only in cities

@jingboy yes u r right here in kerala only the major cities have edge facilities up & running like trivandrum,kochi and calicut.... Rest all have plain old gprs. I stay 30km away from trivandrum city..... To note A single tower has a maximum signal coverage radius of 40km avg.....if u have connected an external antennae then you can add 5km more to the average So since i am inside 40km i am able to get a signal without the need for an external antennae from an edge tower located in trivandrum city called "palayam".. thanks to this app

@aragorn
Just configure http tunnel to use Airtel proxy and it should be able to start its socks server. Now configure apps like trillian , msn , p2p etc to use socks server with IP 127.0.0.1 and port 1080 . To use rapidshare configure ur browser to use the above socks server and the download will start instantly.

This is for all those who want to know about proxy softwares and sites that bypass firewall

1.http://www.hopster.com

Hopster hides your IP address to protect you from anyone who wants to know who you are while you're on the Internet.

Hackers, RIAA investigators, Kazaa monitoring and tracking spyware can no longer track you. No one will know where or who you are.

Hopster acts like an anonymous proxy server between you and other computers. It lets people bypass censoring firewalls to chat with friends using MSN, AIM, Yahoo, Trillian, ICQ and it allows anonymous downloads from Kazaa, iMesh, Grokster, WinMX and many other P2P tools.

Hopster autoconfigures for most P2P clients and instant messengers and you don't need to take extra steps to make it work right away. Be aware that Hopster's site has pop up ads.

2.http://www.http-tunnel.com/

HTTP-Tunnel acts as a SOCKS server, allowing you to use your Internet without being monitored at work, home or school. You can safely use applications in spite of restrictive firewalls. All activities are encrypted, which provides an extra layer of protection from hackers, spyware and ID theft.

Works with eMule, Kazaa, Trillian, AIM, FTP, mIRC, Yahoo! Instant Messenger and others.

3.http://www.bypass.cc

Bypass Proxy Client lets you surf the Internet using your own virtual network so you can anonymously read news groups, talk in chat rooms and visit Web sites. It also protects your Kazaa identity. The software encrypts your Internet movement and routes it through private network servers.

Bypass blocks Web sites that collect IP information and user information for spam lists, safeguards your location and identity when using P2P applications like Kazaa and prevents corporate networks from logging your chat, email or Web communication. It works with Kazaa, AIM, Yahoo! Instant Messenger, MSN, IRC and ICQ.

All editions of Bypass Proxy Client are available as free-trial versions; they are free, fully functional and have an unlimited evaluation period. Please note however that service bandwidth will be limited.

4.http://www.anonymizer.com/

Anonymous Surfing from Anonymizer creates an encrypted path between your computer and the Internet to shield you from online spying, phishing and pharming (illegally redirects users to fraudulent web sites). It prevents your IP address from being tracked, secures data sent over a wireless connection and runs in the background.

5.http://www.proxifier.com/

With Proxifier you can work with any Internet client (browsers, FTP, ICQ, IRC, Kazaa, messengers, telnet, SSH, video/audio, games and others) through a network that is separated from Internet by a firewall (only one open port is required).

Two editions are available: Standard and portable. See the comparison chart.

It provides added privacy in all your Internet activities. For example, when sending and receiving email through a proxy server or by chaining multiple proxy servers together, Proxifier supports all mail clients while allowing you to remain anonymous.

6.http://www.freedom.net/

The bundle includes Freedom Anti-Virus, Freedom Firewall, and Freedom Pop-up Blocker. Anti-virus protects your computer against malicious viruses, Trojans and worms. Freedom Firewall detects intruders and provides real-time alerts of who's trying to connect to your PC. Its detailed intrusion logs lists the blocked intrusions and warns you when programs are trying to send information without your consent. Also included are keyword alert, password manager and cookie manager.

Freedom Firewall system requirements:
56K or Internet based connection using standard Microsoft TCP/IP, with an IBM compatible Pentium 233 MHz or higher. Freedom Pop-up Blocker stops the pop-ups and pop-unders. All applications work with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP.

7.http://tor.eff.org/

Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications that use the TCP protocol. Tor also provides a platform on which software developers can build new applications with built-in anonymity, safety, and privacy features.

Tor's relies on its users and volunteers' time and bandwidth to improve its security. Beware this is development code, therefore it's not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you really need strong anonymity.

8.Proxy Ninja

9.RazorThought surfSafe

10.ProjectByPass

11.VTunnel.com

12.ShySurfer
http://www.shysurfer.com/

13.Sneakysurf
http://www.sneakysurf.com/

14.www.bypassschoolfirewall.com it even tells you how to make your own proxy at the bottom of the page.

15.http://www.surfnolimit.com working very good which allow you to browse and use any application like Msn mesenger , yahoo messenger with webcam and sound. You can also go on website using rtmp flash protocol even if your firewall block these ports For me this was the ultimate solution to avoid proxy and firewall

16.www.sdpnetworks.net I is a Very Good Service And I Love The Features!(its a firewall bypassing software)

17.ULTRASURF and FREEGATE . Here you the client connects to online Servers using https & here you can enjoy g8 speed internet

18.other softwares that most of ul should know about Freecap,RealTunnel,proxycap

19.Use Meebo.com for aol hotmail and yahoo messengers ] Works behind firewall. For webpages use www.pimpmyip.com

I know the post got a little long but if it helps others who dont know about it what the heck! also plz post your comments on which softwares you have tried, which worked and which is the best!!

I heard everywhere on d net that hopster is supposed to be d best tunnel software. Unfortunately i never got it to work with Airtel. What really freaked me out is that it didn't work even on mobile office. . Is there anybody here who got hopster to work on Airtel? Most other software are based on public open proxy list which are very slow and unstable. Yf supports the maximum protocols but it is very unstable. Http tunnel is stable and fast but it doesn't support smtp protocol and most p2p apps.

This Was a poll taken place on the net a few days back and this is what the people taught about the various service providers in india.Read on.......

1) Airtel (Launched 7 years back i guess as JTM, then Airtel took over the company) has got around 9,00,000 Customers
2) Hutch (Launched 2 years back only) has 5,00,000 customers
3) B.S.N.L (Launched 2 years back) has about 3,00,000 customers includes CDMA Customers also.
4) Reliance (Launched 1 year back) has about 1,50,000 customers this is only CDMA Customers only (including fixed line customers of Reliance)
5) TATA Indicom (Launched 2 years back with Hutch) 75,000 customers (including fixed line customers of TATA)
6) Spice (Last but not the least the dreadful Spice, First to launch mobile service in Karnataka (even before JTM) is still stuggling with a customer base of only 2,50,000. They are under a huge loss. And there are rumors that Huch is going to take over Spice Telecom shortly.

Conclusion :-

Maximum customers :- Without doubt, Airtel.
Best Network :- Airtel, 149 cities. (Hutch 110 cities fast catching up)
Advanced Technology :- Hutch, by a long long way.
Clarity :- Hutch, very clear
Best Message delivery :- Hutch
Most Preferred :- Hutch
Most Talked :- Hutch
Cheapest :- Spice (overall includes SMS and Calls)
Cheapest call rates :- TATA (very very cheap)
Cheapest gprs rates:-Airtel
Fastest gprs data speeds without EDGE:-Hutch(Reliance almost there)
Fastest gprs data speeds with Edge :-Hutch (Tata & Reliance almost there)
Best Customer Service:-Nobody (Still Hutch manages to get 0.01%)
Worst network :- The award goes to BSNL(Airtel not far behind?{Suprised}
Worst Clarity :- Award again goes to BSNL
Worst Connectivity :- Should i repeat myself???

Overall i would rate Hutch as the best compared to all the other service providers !!! For Gprs Airtel is the best for u know why BSNL the worst!!! Airtel for calls OK!!! Spice as good (Becoz of the call rates and sms charges and monthly rental)!!! Reliance as Average!!! Tata as below average (Gosh they dont have proper roaming, average becoz of the low call rates or it would have been a big NO, NO).As in mumbai and delhi Mtnl is still the cheapest in terms of plans and call rates but not for gprs because other than Airtel all are expensive.Bpl Mobile in mumbai is still way back in terms of gprs speed and stuff but for calls its still average.

Hutch Wins
