On another matter, I downloaded a theme for the w950i from the SE website, installed it, but have no idea how to make it 'work' It insists on having a 'dd' extension.

@Buttoneer

I don't know if this will help but for the M600 i downloaded it from the SE website via WAP and installed it as that's what it told me to do.

Buttoneer, if you try and download via a PC, the DD file is an XML file.

You need to open the file with a text editor (Windows Notepad or Wordpad are fine) and copy the web address of the actual file from inside the XML. It's easy enough to do and then all you do is paste the address into your web browser to download the file.

Themes for the W950i have an extension of .utz

Yes it's a bit of a hassle to download the files but hey, at least you're not paying your mobile network extortionate charges to download directly onto your phone via WAP.

I hope this helps you.

Hi,

I'm not a phone savvy person, but wanted to get my hands on the w950i since I first heard of it some months ago. So I got my sim free w950i this Monday and I would be quite happy with it, if it wasn't for a really, reaaally annoying bug:

I transfered my mp3 collection and started listening to it. The problem is that in some songs, the phone plays them some seconds and then suddently skips to the next one (no, I don't inadvertedly skip them myself by touching a button). I already erased the collection and transfered it again, but the problem is recurrent.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there a simple way to solve it?

BT: CXC 162958 R3A01
Organizer: CXC 162088 R1B01
CDA: CDA 162017/29 R2A02

Thanks for all your help,
Ricardo

I have a query for the existing SE W950i owners.
I would like to use the the phone for conference call and also voice recording during a meeting in a medium size classroom where people may not sit adjacent to the phone.

Can you tell me how powerful the microphone is and how good the clarity of voice recording in W950i? How good the voice recording feature?

Reviews on this will be highly helpful for me.

Regards,

@Happycamper

Battery life appears to be pretty rubbish but I don;t know what's causing it.

Again last night I walked home from work - 30 minutes - with the walkman on with the phone fully charged, turned the music off when I got home and then picked it up this morning to come back to work at it was at 1/3rd full.

I have no idea what could possibly be eating the battery overnight like that, unless it is essential I close the walkman app, not just hit the pause on the remote.

Some experimentation required I think, but still it's a very poor deal if this is the case.

Already chequed and I have the latest firmware available, so I don't have a clue were does the problem comes from.

Any other ideas?

Make sure you have the latest firmware - some of the early versions had a problem shutting off the graphics card and also reporting the correct charge left.
Also, the bettery will not become 'stable' until 2-3 weeks of CORRECT charging (RTFM)

I've just got an orange branded w950i and I'm shocked at their interference! It's ghastly. I am now looking for a way to get it flashed/debranded. I've searched acrross the davinci route and it seems that they're not supporting it yet because it's a symbian phone. However, I have to get rid of this orange crap. If anyone has any useful links could they please reply or PM me.

It seems that orange have created their own home screen which is impossible to change. The unbranded w950i home screen looks nice whereas the orange one is horrific! The icons in the top level menu are disgusting too. It really needs to be changed!

Also, the battery in these phones is li-polymer which as far as I'm aware have no memory so why would they take 2-3 weeks to stabilise? Not inciting here, more interested in the physics of li-poly batteries!

Thanks
