@NightBlade and all.

If you want proof that's really easy just look around this Forum at all the complaints of lack of Volume and lack of sound stage and a good enough sound all made by SE fans and owners of these devices.

Sorry but all that Sony brings to Ericsson is it's name and marketing that's it they don't share any of Sony's technology and if you think different I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken.

How can a Walkman Flagship model neither have a dedicated DSP or 3.5m jack is nothing more than a joke. I tried both the W880 which i still even now like the look of it, as i was looking for a Music phone and a W950 and was very disappointed by the performance sonically of both. Much as the many users here that bought one i was lucky enough to escape that misfortune.

The only people that think the Walkman phones are great are SE fans who just can't accept the fact that SE has slipped from what was once innovate and the best to medicare and average.

I really can't see how anyone can expect the Music performance of the W960 to be any different to the W950 as neither an extra 64mb Ram or some extra shortcuts is going to be able to change it's Sonic performance or is it?

Oh and Bav in answer to your original question how much difference does a DSP chip make the answer is loads as other wise what would be the point of having a Digital Sound Processor in the first place? as found in the OMAP 2420Chip.

Marc

So you saw the phone and you automatically estimated the quality of its sound output, is that correct?

On the contrary. Many of my friends have walkman phones. They aren't SE fans but they love their phones and the quality of the sound they (the phones) produce. And yes, they have tried Nokias before.

So dogman basically your saying even the W960 gets owned by the 5610 in terms of music playback.

I found the audio quality on the P1 to be great with decent headphones. Maybe i have low standards but ive always found SE to give really good feedback. Ive not heard the 5610 but i guess ill have to now just to see whats its like.

you are right Marc, i feel the SQ has not improved much, but it wont stop people from bying them, doesnt matter if its just a marketing gimmick... thats what's marketing's for, most companies do it, some do it very well...

i found the SQ on the w950 to be the best so far of them, (you seem to not like it ) with a good set of headphones. The only downside was the volume, whilst it was enough in 'most' cases, there were occasions where i wanted more volume.

The k850, 'surprisingly', has quite decent SQ, better the w910 i must say. Shame i dont have the n95 8gb any more to do a little test.

yes, regardless of what someone's random friends might say. i prefer to side with a professional phone/MP3 reviewer

I'm not blind.
Yet, you still haven't heard the phone for yourself. That's the most important part of the estimation practice.

well then dont be reading GSMArena or MR. Wait and see and see if any reviews pop up on audiophile forums like Head-Fi etc....... kidding!

whilst i read reviews, and take some advice from them(very little though, often none at all) i prefer to test products my self and make a decision in reality...

we cant do that here sadly. whilst i agree one shouldnt totally be dependent on a review, but MR was far too critical on W910's audio auality
