Max, about the same time as Z800(I run 910 fw on my 900)...however, it doesn't support 32GB, so I didn't mention it......

only because the P910 firmware only supports fat16 (not fat32 - using fat16 the largest partition size possible is 2GB). The hardware does, but the os doesn't

But again, you are quite correct

And as usual, masseur beat me to it

Thanks. I hope the price of them comes down by Christmas though.

What size microSD/s have people got running in their K850i's? I just saw a nice Kingston 4GB High Capacity Class 4 MicroSD Card over at Expansys:

"Class 4" meaning that you should be able to write to it at over 4mb/s .

Thanks for all the replies. After posting, i noticed that I could get a 6GB SanDisk Class 4 MicroSD for £35 from here: http://www.memoryking.com/mal[....]King/SDSDQ%2D6144%2DE11M/87875
...Which is an absolute bargain!

One thing I noticed though is that M2 cards have a...
Dual voltage operation; 1.8v for new Sony Ericsson mobile phones, 3.3v for Memory Stick PRO Duo compatible devices

Does anyone know how many volts a MicroSD uses? And does it use more of the battery life than a M2?

Thanks,

Norm

Hello to all on this thread,

I read everyone saying about max sizes of m2 card etc. I have just been experimenting with 4gb m2 card in my k850i and yes it does 'accept' the card BUT it seems to have limitations..... I have full length feature films on it that do not playback properly, sound out of sync and jerky, much slower accessing info from it and the 'save' time when you take a photo is up to 4 times longer compared to EXACTLY the same content/operations using my 2gb card with which I have no problems whatsoever! Other things (music, looking at pics, oh and using the phone are fine!). If anyone has tried the micro sd with better results it would be good to know or indeed if anyone using m2 card has similar problems with the same sort of thing I have mentioned.
Also tried the 4gb card in my k800i (same problems), works fine when playing film on pc from the card.

Thanks in anticipation

It's more likely that this is a firmware related issue than hardware.

Hopefully that is the case, bit annoying, as SE say it supports 4gb, clearly not to its full potential!

Anyway I have sent card back in case it is that and gone back to my 2gb card for now see if a replacement is any better.

For now though I would say that the K850i cannot fully handle anything more than a 2gb card, I hope I am wrong but the evidence is not in my favour! Perhaps a firmware update will rectify? Have to wait and see!!

Cheers

Jepps thats right.. Takes a little bit time to load the playlists when i have a lot of music in the phone.. But i really haven't put in 8GB of stuff in the phone yet. Can take a picture later for you.. More likely tomorrow..

yeah I didn't have problems with playlists or music or other less resource hungry stuff either. Have you tried watching a full length film on it? It will be interesting to hear results on 'save' times when taking photos at 5mb. Maybe it likes microsd cards better than m2!!??

@ Sir Sony Ericsson Man - Have you noticed and huge slowdown navigating the phone/media menu/file manager when using that 8gb beast because i'm considering investing in one

and also has the consumption of battery life changed at all especially when in media mode

I think I'm going to buy a 6gb Class 4 MicroSD for my K850i. I mean it seems pretty damn cheap (see my post above) and on SanDisk's website it does seem to suggest that MicroSD cards are slightly quicker.

I was thinking about waiting for the 8gb SanDisk MicroSD card to come out but then I noticed it was a class 4 as well. If you can wait until next year (mid-2008) Samsung are going to be shipping a Class 6 8gb MicroSD.

More info about the different MicroSD classes can be found on SanDisk's site here (please see the bottom of the 2nd page):

Hmm...

Hi All,

It looks as though SanDisk's 8GB MicroSDs and M2s are now available:
http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/[....]k-8GB-microSDHC-M2-cards.phtml

The MicroSD is a Class 4 which means the minimum write speed is 4Mb/s. No specs on the M2 version.

So who's going to be buying one?
