I really like the Nano but have no real user experience with one! the thing that deterred me from the ipod to start with was battery life, so x-mas 2005 i bought my first mp3 player the 1gb Sony NW-E507 with radio, 50hrs battery life and up to 3hrs from a 3 minute charge! the specs really sold it for me as i wasn't really interested in a big colour screen, and the shuffle had no screen at all!

June last year i got the 810i my first phone which didn't quite replace my MP3 player, then i got my 950i and i haven't used my MP3 player since!

I suppose the day ipod do something to really impress me i will invest in one, until then i am a pure man!

I bought a red one (4GB) for my wife for our anniversary. It's an extremely cool little gadget, especially in look and feel. Gotta love aluminum-bodied construction, with which you W880 owners undoubtedly concur

It's impressive enough that I may buy a K550i + black (8GB) Nano...

My little brother has a nano and i have to agree they really are a cool little gadget. But whilst my W950i does all that and more i'll refrain from buying one, the W950i's memory may be a let down to some but 4gb with my music being transferred at 64kbps is more than enough for me! (for now anyway!)

well, this will curve into an up-side-down again between se walkman and ipod as the author was asking for a jury but basically favors on ipod.

and even elaborates aspects of ipod better than a sale rep imho and very attentive on replies and explanations.

sealed this forum before it goes into a promotional iphone and ipods and arguments.

Mate why do you bother trying this thread again? you have been through this whole discussion already..
Face it, this is an SE forum, so most of us love our Sony devices, and you clearly love your ipods, and macs.. You are like one of those crazy bible bashers who turn up on Saturday mornings trying to preach to the hungover masses.. we don't really care how much you love your ipod.. or apple.. we come here because we own Sony products..
Is this making sense to you yet? We don't hate your ipod.. (pity you maybe?) We just don't see the need, our wonderful little convergent Sony devices do it all for us..
So if you like carting around an ipod, a phone and a camera, be my guest.. I'll be the guy at the other end of the train sniggering at you with all your various devices.. me? the headphone cable from my Sony, will be coming from my jeans pocket to my ears.. i might be listening to music, on a call, or even pull it out to take a photo of you with all your array of devices.. people like you really make me laugh that much!
but just to humour your discussion further... an 8gb ipod nano costs £170 on the apple UK site.. Contract phones in the UK are generally FREE.. so, let me see.. FREE vs £170.. hmm case closed in my book.. my all in one phone, camera and media player for FREE beats your £170 ipod anytime..

cheers Oz

Yeah, but the quality of each and one of those devices beats your all in one. I can be just luggin around my W900i and a Nano and the Nano feels like it's not even there, it's just so light and small it's awesome. And besides, a lot of people nowadays have cam phones, so people don't need to lug another camera when my W900i takes nice pics. The reason I carry my iPod is because it's just so much better of a MP3 player than my W900i. Software is much better, making playlists so much easier, adding songs is much easier, just drag and drop in iTunes, and a lot of space.
Walkman phones are okay if you're just on-the-go. The annoying thing about the Walkmans is the no 3.5 mm jack. I mean cmon, if you're gonna make a MP3 Phone, then add a fricken 3.5 mm jack like normal MP3 players have for Pete's sake! Also, when my cable gets loose, the music starts playing and it won't be a pretty sight when everybody looks at you funny.

hi guys - i have an ipod nano 2g and used to have a w800 and now k800.

- more space (4gb) on the ipod. the k800 need to buy expensive m2 card and only 2gb have started trickling into shops here
- ipod easy & fast sync with itunes, se disc2go is slow - very slow but se offers more way to transfer file - by usb, card reader and can use drag and drop
- best features - when you're on train etc you can still receive your call when you're listening to your music. on ipod likely you'll miss receiving call (even on vibrating mode sometimes). oh you can also play java games while listening to music on the k800 but ipod nano games limited to those boring in built ones
- you look more efficient ....... imagine standing in the train, listening to music on the ipod and sms on phone ... cooler to listen and sms on same device
- ipod nano small screen
- ipod got album art, k800 don't have - need walkman2 phone for that
- lousy eq setting in the ipod, k800 got eq
- playlist setup easier on the k800 but ipod better search features
- sound quality - same for both, it depends on quality of mp3 and headphones

overall i prefer k800 over phone + ipod as i have less gadget to lug around ... oh k800 can have bt headphones - less wires

iPods have wireless headphones also
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2412,CONTENTID=12492
To me, iPods has a better way to make playlists than SE's do
SE may have MegaBass, but when it gets too loud, the music quality sounds scratchy.
How would it look less efficient when standing on a train with an iPod and a phone? Your iPod remains in one pocket while you do your thing with your phone, you must be retarded if you hold your Nano and your phone out at the same time. SE doesn't offer much different ways to transfer songs to your phone. Card reader is troublesome since you need to take the card out and stick it in a adapter than stick it in the reader. The USB speed is slow also.
The iPod has USB 2.0 which means a lot faster transferring. You just need to stick it in the dock that's connected to your PC and transfer or if you don't have a dock, you just need to stick in the cable and you can transfer away.
I carry my W900i and my iPod Nano and it feels pretty good. If SE releases a phone with a 3.5mm jack, then I would consider it because the Fastport simply sucks ass.

advantages of my nokia n70 music edition mobile phone :
1. wireless file transfer between my phone & my friends' phones at any given place without any need for a pc/laptop.
2. a still/video camera whenever/wherever you need it.
3. high speed internet at edge speeds when i'm travelling in the bus & have nothing better to do.
4. a calculator & a calendar/organiser at my disposal at all times.
5. an alarm clock that helps maintain my punctuality.
6. 3d games that come in handy as stress busters when needed.
7. discreet communication via text messages even when in a meeting.
8. sharing valuable information or just plain entertainment with mms messages.
9. fm radio when i want to tune in to the latest on the world cup scene.
10. last but not the least i can call my girlfriend to tell her i miss her or order a pizza when i'm hungry.
who needs a freaking i-pod???

I'm curious about opinion... yes, I favor the iPod, but have kept an open mind in using only my W810 now.

Notice I did the same for both iPod and phones - please reread my first post.

Hey, not so fast

I'm not looking for a "jury" so much as a consensus. I'm really torn between an all-in-one phone (W810 for now, W610 soon), or a Cybershot phone + iPod. Each has their unique strengths and weaknesses.

Besides, either way, it means another much-needed sale for in the USA. Be glad of that

One iPhone model alone will not take the shine off of the series of phones in my opinion, but i think the future will be a fierce battle of the portable music god's!

iPOD's huge disadvantage is that it doesnt have a loud speaker, which was a retarded decision by Apple to not put it there.

I really don't understand the big deal about having a built-in external speaker. For whom are you going to play your music? Yourself - that's what headphones are for. Everyone in your subway car - they'll kill you first. A big party - yeah right.

The speaker's handy for phone calls, but I don't get why it's needed for anything else. And the iPod doesn't make calls, so no speaker.
