As for other OS, at least for 2013 there be no non android sony smartphone.
Kinda sad, but expected. Vita OS is not nearly mature enough to support a smartphone. Too many functionalities are missing (for example, lack of folders or orientation in the OS or browser), web browser, while improved, is far behind smartphone ones. And that's not even mentioning the paltry app store it has. If PSMobile thing is real and sony is serious about it, they can improve their app store quickly and get a real ecosystem, getting apps ported from android and iOS store while at the same time improving the vita OS and browser to smartphone standard.
What they could do in 2013 is release a 7-10 in tablet sku with vita os and market it primarily to gamers, therefore not getting hit too hard by critics and customers with the OS being a little raw or the app store being too small. I think something like wikipad (removable pad), but with a sony design would do great. Basically can use the tablet by itself to browse, watch movies, etc or to play small/touch only games, or attach the pad to play hardcore games.
Of course if sony chooses to go vita OS on smartphones and tablets, it'll have to do year refreshes on those and effectively in 3-4 years some games won't be playable on the original vita. I think it's inevitable though and the only path they should take if they want to continue in the handheld gaming market. One thing they would need though is to integrate their e book store with the rest of sen (something they should have done awhile ago). Also need to bring back comics store (released in japan for vita, so kinda expect it to come to the west eventually). And definitely need an MP3/Music Video store to tie with their music unlimited radio service (like the song you're listening to, click the button and buy it now). All major ecosystem OSes have an MP3/Music Video store (Apple, Google, and MS now that they launched Xbox Music). Sony would need that as well.
I think Sony designed WP8 is out of the question unless surface and other windows phones start selling really well and Sony can't miss the boat. They said they are keeping an eye on it and I believe it's for that reason, I don't think they will release a WP8 device otherwise. I doubt sony wants to pay MS the windows royalty fees. Remember that on android fees MS went after everybody except sony (presumably due to the amount of patents sony holds). |

Korea Times: LG's first in-house chips will launch at CES 2013
Sony needs to to do the same or have Ericsson make it for them . Relying on Qualcomm will not make them # 1 Android manufacturer. |

Interesting news!
" MediaTek Inc. has recently received notification to send the sample of its MT6589 quad-core processors to be tested at Sony Mobile"
news.cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_42229.html
"In addition to China-based smartphone makers, Motorola Mobility, Sony Mobile Communications and LG Electronics are also likely to be among the first wave of vendors taking deliveries of quad-core solutions from MediaTek, the sources indicated."

The A7 architecture is the most energy efficient but not the fastest.
ARM's Cortex A7: Bringing Cheaper Dual-Core & More Power Efficient High-End Devices
The big news is the Cortex A7 is 100% ISA compatible with the Cortex A15, this includes the new virtualization instructions, integer divide support and 40-bit memory addressing. Any code running on an A15 can run on a Cortex A7, just slower. This is a very important feature as it enables SoC vendors to build chips with both Cortex A7 and Cortex A15 cores, switching between them depending on workload requirements. ARM calls this a big.LITTLE configuration.
Could we see phones that will use the A7 and A15 architecture in the same device?

You are right and longer battery life on high end phones because of the use of A7 and A15 architecture simultaneously. |

Randomuser compared OPPO Find 5 to Yuga.
Now more of the specs were leaked. It will come with a 3500 mAh battery and it will be 8.3 mm thick.
Lets hope that Sony uses a large battery as well in Yuga and Odin. |

I was talking with some friends today and a couple were interested in the Galaxy Camera, despite its relatively crappy camera for the price. It makes me wonder how serious those rumours about the Xperia K are. I hadn't heard anything about it other than what zomgbbqftw mentioned on NeoGAF... anyone can shed any more light on it? If this rumour were true, it would crush the Galaxy Camera with little effort, but I imagine the price would be a fair bit more. If they could somehow combine Odin/Yuga with the RX100 camera though, I'd gladly toss out $1000 for it.
*crosses fingers*

Offer bigger battery solution may sound interesting, but I think that they just don't have 'know-how' to make a well-optimized software (reduce leakage in power management). So increase battery to keep phone alive for little longer.

Oddly, unlike other countries, Sony is launching Xperia V this week instead of Xperia T citing for our LTE network as the reason. |
