I've just heard there's a new app for P8&P9 along the lines of Kazaa.
It's not actually by them but is apparently same file sharing type thing.
Anyone else got or heard of such a program?

where's the evidence?

Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

hmmm, a p2p file-sharing application for the Px series.....not sure I see the point and the cost would be astronomical.

@Milklsp

Do you mean a file sharing program which actually runs on the P800/P900, or one which runs on the PC and only finds stuff for the P800/P900?
It's not who you know...

...It's what you know about them.

Keep in mind that a lot of members have unlimited GPRS account. Thus it would be a very profitable business to venture into.

But it would take quite long to download large files and in that time you can't be called

Bianca's right. GPRS transfers data at a maximum of around 5k per second.

It'd be like the 'good old days' running Napster over a 56k modem connection, assuming that the P8/900 keeps the connection for long enough to actually get a complete file.

Waste of time, i'm afraid

You should be able to receive a phone call if you are in the middle of a GPRS download session. Moreover, as far as scripting it is not impossible at all to do this. I think anyone with code warrior experience should be able to develop their personal file sharing program. We already have seen the VPN technology on the Pxxx for the past year. Moreover, we've had programs that allow us to scribble back and forth with a remote user in real time. Last year I was watching music video streams from a server that automatically launched my P800 default player when I clicked on a link. Just yesterday I was sent a software via SMS. The SMS simply had a link/script that called for the phone to download the software and actually initiate an installation session. This bypassed me having to download a sis file to my pc and use the SE suite to install it. With that said, if you put all these things together you essentially have a p2p Kazaa like environment. Connect to a database with tons of users and click on a link that basically launches a command to download. And as far as downloading you can script the command that looks for a specific drive (i.e. D:) where your memory stick would more likely reside. Now whether someone has already done this I'm not sure. How they can get the program to create a 'sharing environment' I don't know. That's what Kazaa is. It allows one to access folders from a remote source. If you do it through a network then it's possible. I do think its a market that developers can dip into. It would necessarily just involve SE Pxxx phones only because phones do have the same capabilities. Some to a limited extent.

Unfortunately I have no proof, just a rumour I heard hence why I posted this as a question on this forum.
In answer to some qus asked:
-yes I mean a file sharing app that runs on the Px00

-yes MP3 files & in theory every file a Px00 can handle

-many people, including me, do indeed have free GPRS so cost is not an issue to all

-I have downloaded files of up to 4MB on several occasions & it didn't take an age & it had no problem maintaining the connection

Remember I'm only passing on this as a possible rumour & seein if we can find out more for all our interests.
