What is wrong with the "W" music quality? |
rehamer Joined: Oct 12, 2006 Posts: 75 PM |
Previously, when i read the review on on mobile-review.com comparing w950 and n91, immediately i bought the n91 as it won the music quality area. yes, the following day and sold my p990i. Now, on the same site, same story took place with w880 and samsung's f300.
What is happenning to walkman series SE phones?

i would never ever buy a fone, cos a certain site says, its "better" then another one. i prefer to test it on my own. here maby 90% of the members would say that se is over nokia sound quality.

... So you're not alone when the lynch mob comes I say this in reply: It's mostly a deformed "w", funny colour scheme and hype created by viagr-essive advertising... I totally adore SE though

Nothing's wrong with Walkman phones. They are excellent. What do you regret? |

I'm gonna get a MMC-60 too in a few days time.
BTW, isn't the biigest sound quality factor the encoding rate of your files?
Mine are only 80bps MP3. I'll redo my files if thats not enough for use with the MMC-60.

A lot, in terms of quality of playback, depends on how the files are encoded and the quality of the encoder, as well as the playback algorithms and digital signal processors a given phone uses. I use AAC/M4A files, encoded at 88 Kbps and volume normalized, on my W810i, along with custom audio drivers, and it sounds just great.
How a certain reviewer may experience audio playback on a given phone is subjective. As everyone has different taste, and different ears, when it comes to this.
Black W810i: Crystal Case, Samsonite black leather holster, 512MB + 2GB Memory Sticks, R4DB005 firmware, Pimped FM Megabass 7.0 Acoustic, Sarmad 5.6 w/Spot Camera, 20+ extra Flash menus, custom Startup and Shutdown screens. Luvin' it! |

don't get me wrong - my lady's got a w810 and I quite like it... But if it's soooo great, why did you modify the sh*t out of it? Looking at your post and sig it seems your w810 is hardly the one SE sell anymore?

Well, don't get me wrong. But, not that it's really anyone elses business what I do or don't do to a phone I bought; I did it because I wanted to.

Well, don,t get me wrong either, but: fair enough
(though, you do mention your mods a lot, considering it's not "anyone's business... gotcha )

I have them both, and I converted the K750i into a w800i and the sound was slightly better, not very much but it was little better.
though what pisses me off is that I can not change the volume if the key's are locked with the nokia, the other one is that I always have to turn the nokia off just to take the memory card out...

@Boba
You are right 90% of the people here will say that but that doesn't make them right. Many here unfortunately are blinded by an SE badge and just believe they must be the best.
But just look on this forum for how many threads there are about low volume or hissing and some of this on top of the range Walkman phones. IMO Walkman is little more than an interface and and marketing that's it.
Recently i looked at both the W950 and W880 neither unfortunately impressed me enough to buy them. Although Nokia don't market the N93 or E61 as Music phones they both have more than enough volume @40-50% and enough power to run a set of Shure EC2 headphones and sorry if people don't like that but it happens to be the truth. They also have preset and user definable equaliser settings and are in a different league to Walkman phones. The only thing they don't have is the fancy Walkman branding but there is just no contest IMO.
They also don't need modding either as pointed out if you need to mod it to get good results that does suggest that as it comes out of the box it is lacking.
