Sony Ericsson eye Da Vinci
New York-Sony Ericsson plans to launch new products next week surrounding the world premiere of "The Da Vinci Code," the movie starring Tom Hanks that is based on the novel by Dan Brown.
Miles Flint, president of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, said at the Ericsson Capital Markets Day in New York that the handset manufacturer will have several new products leveraging the movie. These include an audio book that can be played on Sony Ericsson phones enabled for Sony Memory Sticks.
There also will be other Sony Ericsson products, although Flint wouldn't say specifically what they will be. The products are expected to be announced May 18, the day before the official movie premiere. "The Da Vinci Code," a Sony Pictures motion picture, will open the Cannes Film Festival May 17.
Flint also told analysts at the Ericsson event that 2006 is a breakthrough year for Sony Ericsson. One of the gauges of that, he said, is that the joint venture between Sony and Ericsson made its first payments back to its parents based on their original investments. Additionally, Sony Ericsson's employment has grown 20 percent in the past year, to 6,000 employees worldwide.
Sony Ericsson shipped 5.5 million Walkman phones by the end of the first quarter, Flint said. He asserted that the company now is the world leader in mobile music because of that. Flint also said Sony Ericsson's goal is not necessarily to gain market share versus its competitors, but rather to be a profitable company and to match or surpass the growth of the overall market. If those are reached, he said, the company's overall market share will increase.

Damn, those are a lot of phones. Right now people are asking for a non-touchscreen 3G UIQ phone.

Miyu sounds a bit like the SE123 (or similarly named phone) which has been previewed in a few threads here.
EDIT: And by Miyu, I of course mean Moly

@aydahm
A Handycam handset isn't likely this year.

Also, I read an interview that SE had no plans (this year at least) to port over any other brand names to support their handsets (Handycam or otherwise).
Hopefully they'll improve on Cybershot though! Sorry I can't find a link for the supporting story - it was on here somewhere!

Cyndi sounds intriguing. I wonder what the internal memory will be. It sounds high-end to me. Does anyone think one of these babies will DVB-H (tv) compatible?

@Oco: I don't know how good your English is but let me make myself more clear...I'd like an with UIQ, without the stylus, preferably featuring a D-pad in a candybar form.
Comprehende?
