I can install new program thru 3Com bluetooth.
I can connect thru 3Com bluetooth.
I can use Opera to surf internet, but not the internal browser.
But cant backup.

1.Install PCSuiteForP800_rel_1.5.1_AE.exe / whatever is the latest in your language.
SonyEricsson
3.Install hardware 3Com 3CREB96 (mine is first generation 3Com BT)
4.Install bub1_2_10en.exe From 3Com (this software is for second generation 3COmBT)
5.IMPORTANT:From your startup (move the "Bluetooth Connection Manager" link out, you can use that to RESTART your bluetooth connection without reboot your WinXP)
6.Go to your Device Manager. Disable Bluetooth DUN, Fax, LAN. I leave only Serial Host and Client.
7.Good to disable unrelated ports out from Control Panel>Phone Monitor Options. Leave only USB port, 3Com Bluetooth Serial Host and Client ports. I have all Reserved to "NO"
8.Now REBOOT computer
8.Phone Connection Link > Properties > click only Serial Host Port. I have Serial Client listed, USB, and Infrared listed there, but no click.
9.Now pull back ur "Bluetooth Connection Manager" shortcut and double click it.
10.Now Start your phone BT. Then click start the Shortcut you just moved from your Window Startup menu. There may be error message pop up. But dont worry, It will sorted out by it self later on.

You should FRIST see a popup in your 3Com manager and ask to give a password, go ahead and give in any. Then your phone will pop the same thing, now put in the same password that you have for your 3Com manager.

You should be able to see GREEN 3COM icon by your PC Tray, once your connection is up.
Blue Icon, I think is for stand by or something, with Blue icon, I can send/ Beam thru Bluetooth from Phone to PC (only if no link connected between the phone and the phone file manager)

Is either BLUE(upload from phone) or GREEN(service connection), I cant use both functions at the same time.

Phone setting I have:
Operation mode:DISCOVERABLE
Receiving items:Always
Allow to connect without confirmation:Selected

Bluetooth Connection Manager:
Tools>COM> DUN, Fax, LAN >Prompt
Serial port and Serial host mapped to my Phone
Tools>Option>security>Custom>connectable & discoverable selected
Security lvl >NONE
Password>Always give it a password

I just final up information from this Forum

Absolutely right, and it's well documented in the user guide. The reason for this is that the phone has to reboot for the backup/restore to work, so that open files can be closed and therefore included, when it reboots the Bluetooth connection is lost.

So, you can only backup and restore using the cradle or another cable attachment.

Hi,

Thanks for the post - it got me started at least... the step by step site is now gone

I can enable the BT Host port (Com5 in my case) if I try just after a reboot - but after running the 3Com Connection Manager it keeps telling me it can't connect to my phone, and eventually results in a GPF.

I'm running Win XP btw - this must be one of the hardest bits of kit to configure I've ever come accross!

Any tips anyone?

Thanks!

I used 3COM BT before (though I'd given up now and changed to a TDK clone), maybe I can share my experience.

from 3COM Connection Manager, you shoule notice there are 2 COM port for serial connection, one is 'host' and the other is 'client'. Make sure BOTH, yes BOTH, are checked in 'phone connection link'

this is how I make it connected 80% of time:

you might prefer:
set all security to lowest to experience ( I found nothing to do with them tho)
paired them and tell both your PC and P800 to trust each other (i.e. always accept and remember passkey or alike)

1) make sure u install the lastest version of driver and software
2) don't let windows start 3Com connection manager at windows startup by removing the link in the 'start->programs->startup' menu
3) after windows reboot, make sure BOTH serial port are checked in 'phone connection link'
4) start 3Com Connection Manager now.
5) u will see some warning but don't worry, the green icon will appear finally.

the reason to check both serial port is because of the callback behaviour of P800. When Phone Connection Link (aka mRouter) try to look for P800 at client COM port, it will start a BT connection to P800. When P800 detect that connection, it will then close the connection and connect back through BT. mRouter will then detect P800 at the host port.

hope this helps

Hmm... I've tried that, I'm trying it again - all that seems to happen is that BTCM pops up saying "Unable to connect to device. Try again later".

It does this once every 3 seconds or so, for about 50 times and then crashes

Perhaps something else is wrong - I updated the 3Com BT SW a few weeks ago so I doubt it's that.

tmlclone said something about a file named "bub1_2_10en.exe" from the 3Com site. I can't find that one... any pointers?

Cheers,

John.

(Also - forgot to say... BT file transfer and dial up works fine - it's just connecting/browsing as you do with the cradle (except for backup of course))

(Another edit... Com 8 (!???) seems to want to have something to do with it - if I check that too, BTCM stops complaining (except for one time). Com 4&5 are the client/host, I have them checked also.)

heres the bub1_2_10en.exe mentioned: http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/result.jsp?selected=all&sort=fname&sku=3CREB96B

but they are for the 'B' version and i got a 'A' so i hadn't tried this driver.

Since you can transfer and dial-up so i think the pairing is ok. Have u update ur pc suite as well? 1.5.1 is the latest. When i was using 3COM BT, only 2 COM ports show up in mRouter, thats the client and host port (3 & 4 in my case). what's the type of connection is ur COM8? cable, IR, USB, BT?

and, if u have like $35 to spend, buy another widcomm based BT. more stable and more service profiles to play around.

My 3COM BT just stop working if I take my P800 out for lunch and then come back. The blue light on the device gone even after I restart the BTCM or unplug/plug the device. I gotta reboot my PC to make it works again and that make me to put it in 'RIP'.

All drivers are the latest - disregard my comment about COM8.

The reason I wanted the 3Com was because it fits flush inside my laptop, and won't get knocked about.

I'd rather have something I didn't have to keep removing too.

I'll keep trying!

Could you be so kind to post the link for the updated drivers for 3Com? I have the PCMCIA card 3CRWB6096 and the card works, but the 3Com Connection Manager sucks and blows at the same time (to quote Bart Simpson) so it is very difficult to set up an serial port connection, or any connection for that matter.

Btw, does anyone know if there is some compatible software for 3Com to make this easier?
