I posted many times asking for a method of recovering my P800's SMS's after the upgrade without a total Restore;
What I did was that I made a backup of the phone just after I upgraded it, then I restored the phone to the backup I did before upgrading, then I copied the "C:\system\mail" folder on the p800 to the computer, then I restored the backup I did after the upgrade
After that I filled the memory stick with lots of files (the smaller the size the better for the procedure), made a backup of it and restored it on the memory stick
While the phone is off and is restoring data on the memory stick you are still able to access the files with full permission (No files in use) but only do so after the first file has been recovered
While the phone is restoring data you copy the folder back to its original location

Fahed - I had the same problem - You need to restore the Index file to c:\system\mail\ - but when You try to do this You get write error (file in use) - just take the p800 off from the cradle during RESTORE- when You see Retry Abort Ignore message window and after putting it back press retry! It Should Help!
If any probs - just PM me!
Best Regards!

Well first you need the recovery file
Open it using a Zip program and locate the mail folder
Example on my computer the file is located on
(C:\Documents and Settings\XxX\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\backups\350443-10-650353-3\007 2003-09-29 23.26.14\backup\Internal\system\Mail)
Where
XxX = username
007 = name of the phone
2003-09-29 23.26.14 =Date and time
350443-10-650353-3= is a junk (Auto generated number so it can differ
(I am not sure but you might need to tick off the "Hide System files" in Tools/folder option/ view tab
Then put the phone in recovery mode (The best way to do this is to this with lots of files that are small in size) or fill your memory stick with lots of txt files and make a backup of that, then restore it
While the restore starts to take place the phone turns off and starts copying, there you restore the mail folder to its location
