so why not tell these people how to do it ? as a normal user that iam, i too have no idea how to extract something from the rom. the only thing i would be capable to do at the moment is to do a backup and send this thing to sweetheart ...
i'm sure if there is a public step by step description how to backup the p900 rom, a humble, anonymous guy would send the stuff to this forum.

A backup will not help! It's very easy, just use filemanager, then locate communicorder under Z rom drive(probably Z/apps/ ) and copy files (.app,.aif,.mbm,.rsc etc) on C or D,then use epocware fileman to copy the files on pc,then attach files to email...and that's it! I hope that someone with a p900 will send those files to sweet...

Petrutsm, thanx man
Let me explain what i need to test it:
one of the rom drive where all the .sis files are available:
1. :\System\Install (the whole INSTALL map)
2. :\System\Apps\Communicorder (the whole Communicorder map)
Internal drive (anything that has to do with the communicorder):
3. c:\System\Apps\Communicorder (the whole map)
4. c:\Documents\Communicorder (the whole map)
In the internal drive, the .aif, .app, .mbm, .ini files, and etc!
My intensions are not bad, i want to try to make the Communicorder work for the p800 and i will release it to the p800 community.
As u can read above, i named systemappscommunicorder but this also can be named as cmnc or comncrdr, i dont precisely know how the Communicorder maps is named!
I would appreciate if some p900 owner did this for me, and he packed the files to seperate maps (folders)!?

C:/System/Install this directory is for application uninstall utility. if oyu want to check it on your p800 go to that directory and delete any *.sis file from it, then go to application list and go to Uninstall programs, and you will see that the program which corresponds to that sis file is not on the list anymore.
The installation of buildin programs such as communicorder should be in A or Z ROM drive, i cant remember the directory, but when i will find it i'll tell you. I know this because i was looking at each folder in ROM drives on P800 and there are installation files af all applications which "come with the phone".
Check it out yourself.
Ok here it is
Z:\System\Install
You will find all the build in applications installation files in this folder

Unfortunately I don't know anybody who has a P900. Despite this where I live (Austria) there isn't even a dummy of the P900 available! Therefore I can't help although I would like to do!
Please you lucky P900 owners, read the instruction of "sweet heart" and help him making a really big thing! Please send him the files he need! |

That's because UIQ 2.0 and UIQ 2.1 are fully compatible. |

I know that th UIQ 2.1 is fully compatible with the older version, but i never heard about the compability of the UIQ 2.0 with the new one...
Backward compability is a classic, but forward surelly not, look at programs...
How do you know it is forward compatible????? |

I didn't say it's forward compatible. Don't know - maybe it is. But it's downward compatible and that's the most important thing. That means that UIQ2.1 appz will run on the P800. Therefore the Communicorder will run, too. |

How can you be sure of that??? I never heard about that compability....
You can run software from the P800 on the p900 (sometines with problems!! sound, grafic,... are some not perfect or completly wrong!!!), but i never heard (logic in fact) about software who is made for the P900 that run on a P800....

How can he know? loll
There is not ONE application that is made only for the P900, all we have know are software from the P800 who are compatible with the P900...
And that is not even all of them... a lot of software (games for example) gives allready a lot of problems. |

Ok, let's wait until someone has tried the Communicorder on his P800. Then we'll see... |

Guys... There is a little problem here.
The CommuniCorder program resides on the Z: drive of the P900. Such programs are compiled differently for XIP (execution in place, i. e. in ROM, not RAM). So the CommuniCorder will not be possible to run from the C: drive of the P800, due to XIP binary incompatibility (nothing to do with UIQ versions or hardware differences).
Test for yourself. Copy Calc.app (and the other Calculator files) from the Z: drive of the P800 to the C: drive of the same machine, then try to run Calc.app. No way. And hats off to the hacker who will overcome a different compilation...
The CamCorder was a completely different (easy) case, just a matter of installation.
Only SE could solve the problem by including CommuniCorder in a new P800 firmware upgrade. |
