Hi all,
My T68i is handling the pictures in the picture album in a very
strange way. Each picture is allocating much more T68i memory than
the actual size of the picture.

If you go to the picture album and enter
´Memory Status´ by pressing the Option key (memory status is
option no 9). If you then scroll down to ´My Pictures´ and press
´Yes´, you will see the picture album with the actual size that
each picture is taking in the T68i memory in the title of each picture.

The problem is that this size is much bigger than the actual size
of the picture (which can be viewed by using ´Picture info´).

Anyone has the same problem or any idea why it is like this. This
means that the T68i can store far less pictures than the claimed
800+ Kb.

I belive there is an old topic on this where someone had a good theory about information of the file also takes space and perhaps thumbnail too. Granted they could do it more effective/smarter. I hope there will be a new software update soon

My guess is that the phone decompresses the GIF file and stores it internally in a "raw" format.

This would considerably reduce the processing needed when displaying pictures - especially if the picture needs to be dynamically resized (as in Picture Caller ID for example).

A good example of this is with animated GIF screensavers. When you load them, they are quite small, but they can take up to 5 minutes (or longer) to be displayed in My Pictures for the first time. After that, they are always there.

If you select a newly uploaded animated GIF to be a screensaver, you might find that it runs *very* slowly for a while, then suddenly speeds up.

I have a 15K "Taz" animated GIF screensaver. When I first downloaded it and assigned it, the animation would run once, with a 1 second gap between each frame, before switching to the clock saver. 2 days later, it nows runs the animation twice, at the correct speed, before switching to the clock. It's now also taking up 105K of phone memory...

So, maybe our T68s are even smarter than we thought!
