Bluejacking a printer?? |

The weirdest thing happened yesterday. I was at an office and waited for some friend of mine and out of curiocity I did a bluetooth search, not to bluejack but to see if anyone around had a bt enabled phone. To my surprize the search revealed a printer (!?) HP Deskjet 995c. Of course I didn't do anything but do you think it would be possible to send a picture directly from the phone to the printer and print it? That would be nice

Yes you can, if the printer support this function.
I tried something like that, but just via IR and that worked

Im in high school and at the end of the day as Im walking down the hall doing a bluetooth scan, one hall picks up some bluetooth printer in one of the classrooms. I always send my Hey YOU SUCK contact but I know it isnt doing anything [even though the printer accepts] because you dont have PIM data on a printer...
but the only PRINT function I see on the T610 is for SMS. You cant print a note, you cant print a contact or a picture either.
If I sent my phone an SMS that said hey you suck or something and tried to print that, wouldnt it print off my mobile number as well as the email it was sent from???
we need someone with a bluetooth printer to test out some methods of keeping our privacy.
you could use AT&Ts SMS sender on their website, the from just displays as an IP address rather than an email address, but we need to know if the receiving mobile shows as well when it prints. |

I think it will only show t610 or whatever you have named your phone, but to be shure there is a function on the menu caled hide the phone and that mean other will not see the phones name. and i think that will work.

I used to do something similar with the IrDA on the 8210 and IR enabled printers.
But that was back in the bad old days, and I would never do sucha thing now... |

well if its printing an SMS message, wont it print out the header, which would include the to/from information, one of which is your TELEPHONE number?
And I wouldnt think that HIDE PHONE would prevent the printer from recognizing the name of a bluetooth device who is TRYING TO SEND SOMETHING TO IT... I think that just hides the phone from being discoverable all the time.
any other thoughts?
it would be good if anyone had a bluetooth printer and they could unpair their phone from it and play around bluejacking it and seeing what happens... or give it a try while youre at work hehe... |
