You know what I mean; the little indented oblong next the power button. What's it for?

At first I assumed it was a window behind which the infrared transceiver lived, but it seems that I was wrong. Is it just a little grip that you use when dismantleting the phone or something?

Obviously this knowledge will be of no use to me, but I'd be interested to know why it's there.

if u look closely, its ohmygodingly simiilar to the one found in the T68i. the one found in the T68i was used for the ICT-13 phone holster, whereby the top of the holster will click into the indentation, holding the holster in place, and for that aesthetic look ( ). therefore, i presume the one in the T610 is for a similar purpose, just that the holster hasnt been released yet.

.....unless im very much mistaken...

Yeah, that makes sense actually. I never had a T68 so I've never seen anything like it before.

**edit**

Sure enough, a quick seach on the SE website has come up with this.

Its also the clip that holds the phone in place when you put it into the car holder HCH-33.

:edit: i think theres none. i think its a point in the casing whereby its thinner or translucent. can IR rays penetrate opaque materials?

I found out where the ir transceiver is this morning, that's what made me wonder about the holster point. It's still on the top, but closer to the camera button that is on the side of the phone.

I was thinking about doing some infrared photography and was using my phone to see how sensitive my camera was to infrared. I then noticed straight away that the signal wasn't coming from where I expected it to...

The ir port is on top, opposite where the power button is. I always thought the little indent was a secret compartment u could use for smuggling

Some cameras work better than others at picking up IR wavelengths. My T610's camera works with all the remote controls I have lying around though this is different to the P800 one isn't it.

The phone's IR port has to be active while looking at it with a camera too, I took the photo above while trying to send a file via IR.
