HELP! my P800 wont start up |
Naar Joined: Jan 04, 2003 Posts: 238 PM |
this is the first time it happened. i left it overcharge a couple of hours (i fell asleep) and realized the phone was turned off. then when i tried to turn it on i get the sonyericsson logo and it says p800 on the bottom and it just stays in that screen forever with lights on. it wont do anything but get to the stating animation then the phone stops. i tried waiting 2-3 minutes but still no luck( i tried a couple of times). and the only way to turn it off is to hold the power button for 10 seconds (same as when system failure) any help would be appreciated.
and as i am in the US going to a service center is out of the question

i hope its some glitch and in an hour or 2 go away
do you think this has to do with overcharching...its the first time the phone shuts down by itself and not turn on again (although the start up anmimation and sound are there but thats it )
my firmware is R2A if that helps

i meant that the phone was at 85% battery and before i had time to take the phone out of the charger i went to sleep and didnt take i out of the charger until 7 hours later!!!!!!
i know if you charge the battery more than it needs to be charged its not good for the batterys life over time and you will reduce its maximum potential if you do that |

The reason why the phone does not start has nothing to do with ur battery, yes ur right, it reduces the life of the battery if u charge it when it 85% full + a overcharge...
I dont know how u can solve the problem, but it has nothing to do with the battery, maybe something is wrong with the hardware of the phone?
Like here above said, wait a few hours and try after that...
If it is not working after that > go back to the retail shop and say that the phone hangs at the startup screen... If u ordered from a foreign country... u'll just have to wait till it will be available in ur country...
I can only say, succes, i hope there is nothing wrong with it... it would be a shame m8...

You can;t overcharge a lithion battery. First of all the charger turns off automatically once the phone is charged, and secondly a lithion battery can't suffer from that.
Can you access the engineering menu though? I believe there's something in there to reset the software on the phone. |

As mentioned already, Li ion/ Li pol batteries will NOT be afected by top up style charging, so the person who said it reduces the life is a "guess engineer", it actually helps these kind of batteries.
My P8 has not done this but may i suggest some standard things to do,
First remove the Duo & leave it out to remove it from the suspect list, then remove sim, put battery back on & charge until 100% (with no sim or duo & with the phone switched off. as soon as it is 100% full (you will have to do a 3-4 hr charge because u can`t check % of charge with phone swiched off) put in the sim BUT NOT THE DUO & fire up your phone. |
