We need someone to translate some technical information from an SP in Norway about SMS over GPRS, in particular the information about the "need to translate between SMS-over-GPRS capable networks and disabled nets."

The thread is [url=http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=1741&forum=2&4]here[/here].

Translation of the answer from NetCom GSM (Norwegian GSM operator)

GPRS is a technoloy that also suports sending of SMS messages. The diferent opperators are now working to implement this technologi in their network.

NetCom it testing their network new with this new service to send SMS. Before we can begin sending SMS over GPRS between diferent operators all operators have to suport this technology

If they don't suport this tecnology the message have to be converted to another format before it's sendt to the reciver, and that demands alot of our network recources. NetCom is therefor waiting to launch SMS over GPRS until the other operators are ready

While computer trafic over GPRS use normal trafic chanals in our base stations, SMS uses other chanals, its the same with SMS over GSM. This is why the price model for SMS over GPRS will be diferent than other GPRS trafic (just like the price model for SMS over GSM is different from other trafic). With other words it's not the case that SMS over GPRS will be priced the same way as computer trafic over GPRS

Best Regards
NetCom Computer/Fax

Well, this is it, I hope there isn't to many typing errors here

Well thats not quite the accurate translation... This is right (FUCK NetCom)

With other words it's now the case that SMS over GPRS MAY NOT be priced the same way as computer trafic over GPRS...

...So they are probably working on a way to register SMS trafic over GPRS so that they still can charge us 1NOK per SMS...
