Anybody able to sync the P800 with Outlook XP? |

Apologies for starting a new thread, but it's a problem that's been driving me crazy for a couple of days now...
Has anyone been able to sync the P800 PDA applications (i.e. contacts, calendar, tasks, notes) with Outlook XP/2002? I was hoping to finally retire my Palm, but haven't been able to sync the dang P800 at all. I've been able to transfer files, install programs etc from the PC to the P800 via the USB cable connection (cradle), so it's not a physical connection problem.
I've tried installing the P800 PC Suite software at least 6 times, as well as reformated a hard drive and reinstalled just Windows XP, Outlook XP/2002 and the PC Suite - as clean an install as you can get, but still no luck...
Anyone have any ideas at all? Or if not, does anyone know if Sony Ericsson has a tech-support email address or telephone number I can call - it's not officially released in my country yet.
This whole issue is driving me up the wall, as I haven't had a sync problem this perplexing in all my years with Palms/Handsprings and Pocket PCs.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
Best,

Hjuhlin,
I'm happy to hear you have been able to synch with Outlook - it gives me hope that it's just some odd setting that I have wrong. Could you tell me what your setup is - are you also using Outlook XP/2002, Windows XP, and connecting to the P800 via the USB cradle? Is there anything specific you think might be causing my problem?
Specifically, what happens is that when I use the "Synchronize" menu command from the task bar P800 icon, the "Synchronisation in progress" window comes up - and I get the graphic of the files going to-and-fro from the P800 and the PC. However, for each of the application progress bars underneath, I just get the message "Synchronisation not started" forever - then after a while the window seems to hang.
Again, I have been able to transfer files to the P800 from the PC, so the connection is working. It must be something to do with the setup of the synch software.
Thanks for your help!
Best,

My Synchronisation starts after 30 seconds and work.
One problem can be in the internet settings ,program and e-mail as to be Microsoft outlook not outlook express.

Thomas,
Thanks for the post; what Internet settings are you referring to? On the P800? I don't see Outlook/Outlook Express as choices there. If you mean in the Synchronisation Settings window on the PC, yes I set it to Outlook 2002/Xp etc there. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance to all.

Don't know if that helps, but I couldn't synchronize with the P800 before I upgraded my W2k to SP3. (Doesn't work with SP2). And it works fine now !! (except the second mobile number, see http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=16877&forum=2&0)
Perhaps a similar action has to be taken with XP...
Cheers and Happy New Year !

Darn. Just checked. I already have the latest versions of Windows 2000 (and XP on another PC) installed. Any other ideas? Anyone?

Have synced my p800 with 3 different computers. Two with win-xp/office-xp and one with win-2000pro/office-xp. No problems...
Sure you don't have any limitations in your office-setup that doesn't allow other programs to access outlook?
I allways gets a question if I want to allow other programs to access outlook. |

Here's my odd experience. I'm using outlook 2000 on win2k SP2. It is a corporate desktop so I can't test out updating to SP3. My .pst file is about 150meg in size. If I sync when outlook is not connected to my exchange server it takes forever (it stays quite a while on analyzing and thrashes the hard disk) but eventually completes. If I connect to exchange it seems to just hang (the hard disk eventually stops hitting as much) and it never completes. The process itself isn't really hung in the OS, but it never syncs. I'm not sure why it is taking so long (I was pondering if it was due to my .pst file size, but my other pdas - ipaq, handspring treo all sync fast and fine).

Hi!
Another thing to try:
The USB driver for the Sync station shipped with the P800 can be a bit tricky at installation. Often Windows2000 and WindowsXP finds a driver for the sync station through windows update or in the installation CD for XP or Win2000. However, according to SE support, this driver is not proper and they recommend using the driver enclosed in the CD shipped with P800.
If this solves the problem or not, I don't know, but I guess it's worth a try for you guys who have not been able to sync, and are not sure wheter you installed the enclosed driver or not.

Thanks woaow, ervil, xenious and hobbis.
I guess today I'll try to check that I'm using the "right" USB driver - hopefully I'll find it on the CD. Not sure if that's the problem though, as I am able to do file transfers etc fine, and able to browse the internal memory and Memory Stick Duo memory on the PC. I'm guessing it's some setup issue, perhaps with Outlook XP.... However, I only get the "access request" when altering the synchronisation settings - the window doesn't pop up when I actually try to do a Sync. As mentioned, I've tried installing new versions of Outlook on fresh XP installs too. Really frustrating.
Keep the ideas coming...
