Yesterday I emailed Sony Ericsson Customer Support asking if they could confirm after what date the phones should be ok. This is their response.

Dear Mr Wright,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre.
I can not help with the manufacturing date, we have no firm confirmation of this,
We are updating as many phones as we can get hold of at the moment, there should be no phones left with this problem very soon.
The turn around time for celestica should be a day, for this upgrade, however the normal fault support will not be available for a couple of weeks.
Please note the Mac software is available at www.apple.com/isync.
Please contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre again if we can assist you further.
Kind Regards,
Derek Ebbrell

if you have a valid warranty for your phone every sony ericsson service centre should fix your phone for free - no matter in which country you bought it. that's what I think, maybe some other users could confirm this?

Nah doubt it. I purchased a t68 from Switzerland and went over to Malaysia. Asked 'em whether they'll do the firmware upgrade - they said no. THey only did upgrades for free to those t68s purchased in Malaysia.
But anyhow, are you in Germany? I'm thinking of buying the phone here and assuming if it has the hissing sound problem - where in Germany can I have it fixed? Can you provide a contact ? |

For free? part of the t610 warranty? Would I have to post the T610 to them? and I assume I can claim that for free as well?

Where in Germany are you? You own a P800? Where do you usually get your firmware upgraded? and for free, I assume? |

i am in the uk at the mo... just read all that stuff on a german forum.. service is free of charge at www.w-support.de if you have proof of purchase and the fault is covered by the warranty (the hissing problem is covered by the manufactures warranty) |

So it's starting to look like week 23 (or later) for non hissing T610's might be true. Now if someone who purchased a T610 with this or later manufacture date would post here with the verdict, we will finally know what to look for before buying. |

My T_mobile T610 has the hissing problem, it is a 03w16, I just went to the T-Mobile shop and tried out 2 03w17 and they also hissed.
I then went to a sim free mobile store on Tottenham Court Road and they had just received a batch of 03w21.
I tried 2 handsets with absolutely no hissing at all so I bought one.
When I got home I had a voicemail from SE saying that the hissing problem was now being sorted at Celestica with a 24 hour turnaround, I called Celestica to confirm and they did.
I'm gonna get my T-Mobile T610 sorted and then putting it on Ebay for £200.

It looks like SE is still shipping hissing T610's. This is from Mphone's web site:
Price is now fixed. The T610 arrived on 6 June 2003 but was found to have the "hissing" background noise and was therefore returned. New batch is expected within a few days.
Very frustrating! |

It doesn't matter when the handset was shipped it matter when it was made. There's a sticker inside (BEHIND the battery, not ON the battery. |

Everyone knows that. We've all been looking at the label under the battery such as 03W21. I'm just saying that Sony Ericsson still seems to be shipping hissing T610's. |

The problem is that it's most often not SE sending out the phones... SE sends the phones off to distributors who in turn sends the phones off to the stores... This means that the distributor might have old batches, but send them out now... What matters is when the phones have been delivered to the distributor! And fixed phones have been sent out from SE for some time now, but I guess it takes some time until the stores actually get them as it makes so many stops before it gets there! |
