Tested New Billionton Driver and Some Questions |

After downloading the newest billionton driver (http://www.billionton.com.tw/extra/download.htm), I can now easily transfer pics, themes, ringtones, contacts from my T68i to my PC! [:p] All these without having to install additional software! Yipeee!!!
Although I'm not successful in sending notes to my PC, overall it's much better than the drivers that came with the CD. I recommend this to everyone with a Billionton BT transciever.
Now for my questions:
1. I had a data cable for my previous phone which was a Nokia 7110. I had the cable attached to the phone the whole day and I use it to send and receive SMS from the phone to the PC and vice versa. I don't have any idea though if a cable connection is a "continuous" connection or is just started everytime a communication is initiated by the PC or the phone.
Now with Bluetooth, I noticed that a continuous connection drains a significant amount of battery charge. I don't know if which drains more power, a data cable connection or a BT connection. Any idea guys?
2. I noticed a new menu item in the BT system tray icon--Audio Gateway. What's this for?

Set T68i Bluetooth operation mode to auto instead of "on". the Bt is activated once the phone sences that there are other devices around.
Set your activation mode for the BTW to automatic, so when ever an aplication requests the servive the connection is established.
when you do the above the Bt icon on T68i is on when ever you are near the pc and connected when ever a servive is activated.
this is the most batter friendly
2)this is to use other Bt devices microphone and speaker?

What version of windows you have?
When I install the version from the link you have posted install works perfect same goes to bluetooth. BUT BUT my whole DNS system dies off.
I am on XP pro SP1 and after i install this version (no older Bt software is installed on this machine) I get a warning from my Mcafee indicating that my ipstack has been updated or replaced. Not a very worrying message as Bluetooth will introduce a new ip stack.
After this everything other than resolving names trough DNS works. So I can ping or open a web page as long as I type the ip instead of the name.
Uninstalling the BT does not cure the problem too. Luckily I got my XP restored to a safe point.
Strange! Has any body encountered such problem? Any Suggestions

I apologize for the late reply. Didn't notice the new post.
Anyway, I'm also using WinXP Pro. No problem as far as DNS are concerned. Everything works fine considering that I only answered your question today and I've been using the new drivers since.
Hope you fix everything. |

I thought a new version of the driver went out! Well anyway, about power consumption, BT operates on low power. Much much lower if its in standby mode.

I am assuming that you are using the Billionton SW that came with the dongle and the BTUSB 1.3.2.7 Drivers?
I am still having major dramas trying to get this setup to work. Any tips to get it going?
PS. I have been able to pair the devices, and file transfer every other time, by drag and drop. |

What were the original drivers that came with dongle? I have problems with it on my pc but with my thinkpad, it works flawlessly. both are on winxp.

No. I'm not using the drivers that came with the dongle. I downloaded the drivers from the Billionton site. Somehow the drivers in the CD are outdated that I too experienced a lot of problems.
