ok so yesterday i finally went out and bought a new t68i after my 4 year old motorola brick fone died, it were on special offer in argos for £99 but ive had a fiddle today and cant get the wap, mms, or email bit working at all. Im on the pay-as-you-go tariff if that makes any difference. I assumed the wap settings were already loaded onto the fone, but it didnt appear to work so i installed new settings from the sony-ericcson site.
So far ive tried sending myself an mms message off lycos, so i could put some pictures on the fone, but lycos just sent me 5 sms messages saying go to a wap site- which the fone wont connect to, saying "wrong user id/password".
I tried putting in the details for my email account (not hotmail) and it does the same thing when connecting to that. I have had a look on the web, and tried changing the wap id/password to "user" and "wap" respectively, (they were blank before) but it didnt make any difference.
Any help would be much appreciated- im new to all these new fancy features!

Welcome to esato!
I think that the best thing to do is to call your service provideer and ask them what to do. You could try to download new settings from the providers home page. The esaiest thing to do is still to call the customer support though. Good luck!

Here we go again...!!! I bought a T300 on T-Mob-converted 2 virgin because of the great call costs!!!

Anyway, heres how to make the thing work.

Before you do anything, do this (if it hasent already been done!!). It will save battery power!!

Goto CONNECT>DATA COMM.>PREF. SERVICE>GPRS and GSM

MMS: This WONT happen till Virgin support it...I wish I could use it too

WAP: Settings as follows, if this helps....

Go to CONNECT>DATA COMM.>DATA ACCOUNTS>ADD ACCOUNT

Choose GSM data

Name it = Virgin Mobile

Phone no = 07953968988
User id = user
Password = wap

Then hit save

Then go back to the menu and go WAP SERVICES>OPTIONS>WAP PROFILES>ADD PROFILE?

Name it = Virgin Mobile
Connect using = Virgin Mobile (this is what you made eariler!)
IP address = 149.254.1.10

And save it

No go and click on Virgin Mobile. Go to Advanced...

Chg homepage = Name : Virgin WAP Site : http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap/

(User id = user

Password = wap [If this doesn't work, leave these blank])

Secrity = Off

Show Pictures = On

And go back! Now try and connect.....

E-mail:

There is only one way to do this...you need to get hold of a T-Mobile SIM to do it (with GPRS enabled)

Put all your settings in and download the T-mobile GPRS settings onto your mobile from site. Now put your T-mobile SIM in. If it doesn't work, you will HAVE to get the phone unlocked to do this.

Connect to T-mobile GPRS and send and recive one and send a email to anyone once.

This replace with your Virgin SIM and change the connect to bit in the email settings to Virgin Mobile.

Then it should work!!! I did with me!!

Actually it is possible to use the email app on the T300 / T68i with Virgin Mobile. There are two ways of doing it.

The first is to sign up with an account from yahoo mail UK. It may work with other providers but I know it works with yahoo so I'll use that in my example.

Then you need to go to main menu and choose messages, email, options, edit account, add new, give it a name (yahoo mail for example) and then set the following options:

connecting using: Chose your virgin wap profile
protocol: pop3
incoming server: 216.136.173.10
incoming port: should say 110, leave it alone
mailbox: the yahoo mail username you chose
password: the yahoo mail password you chose
outgoing server: 217.12.11.66
outgoing port: should be 25, leave it alone
email address: your yahoo email address

The final few settings should be pretty self explanatory.

The final step is to sign in to yahoo mail, chose mail options, chose pop access and forwarding, a new window will open. Select Web and POP Access, select Text messages only, press the submit button. Click the back to options button and exit all the yahoo mail screens.

Now send a test email from your PC to your new yahoo email address. Then do a send / receive on your phone. With luck it should download the email you just sent! Try sending an email back to your PC email address to check that email sending is working too.

Because you're using virgin wap to connect, it'll only cost 5p per minute to check your email (after the first five each day, but let's assume you use those up with voice calls). On average it takes about 30 seconds to check for new email, so that's only 2.5p each time you wanna check your mail. Not too bad.

The other more complex and more expensive way is to sign up with one of the 0845 one penny per minute internet providers. I used UKU ( http://www.uku.co.uk/ ) and the sign up process takes about a minute. Once you have signed up you will get a page with a list of settings on it, listing your username, password, email server names, dialup number, etc. etc.. Print this page out

Now on your phone go into the main menu, choose connect, data comm., data accounts, add account, chose gsm data, give it a name (UKU dialup for example), in phone number enter the dialup number from the page you printed out, in user id enter the username you chose, and on password enter the password you chose. Then chose save.

Now go back to the main menu and choose messages, email, options, edit account, add new, give it a name (UKU mail for example). Now you have to set the following options:

connecting using: uku dialup
protocol: pop3
incoming server: this will be the pop3 mail server listed on the page you printed out
incoming port: should say 110, leave it alone
mailbox: this will be the username from the page you printed out
password: this will be the password from the page you printed out
outgoing server: this will be the smtp mail server listed on the page you printed out
outgoing port: should be 25, leave it alone
email address: the uku email address you chose when signing up

After all that faffing about you should now be able to send and receive emails from your phone! As Virgin charge a flat rate of 10p per minute for 0845 calls, it shouldn't be that expensive. It usually takes about 40-50 seconds for it to dial in and check the email (slower than the other method, no idea why ) so 7-8p each time you send / receive emails (unless it downloads or sends a ton of emails, which will make the call last longer).
