Just got a T610 this weekend on contract with T-mobile (UK).

Via my T-mobile GPRS data account on the T610 I've been able to access the internet on my laptop (using bluetooth) - no problems here. However, has anyone been able to use email successfully (using either GPRS or dial up) through the "Messaging/Email" menu on the T610?

For the dial-up, firstly I set up a new Data Account for my ISP (Zen Internet) and plugged in all the new settings - user name, password etc but when I try to "Send and receive" my phone dials the ISP number and tries to connect but always comes up with the message "cannot find the server".

T-mobile help desk weren't able to help as they advised me that this email feature on the T610 messaging menu "isn't supported by them" and gave me a Sony Ericsson support number to try - office hours only of course!

Anyone any ideas what's going wrong on the dial-up account or has anyone been able to connect up to email via GPRS on T-mobile (uk) and if so how?

Make sure you enter a DNS server in your data account

[EDIT]
I successfully use e-mail feature on T610 with both GPRS and dial-up

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean - this stuff is new to me.

A DNS server in my data account ? In the "DNS address" field of the "Zen Internet" GSM data account I set up I put in a DNS of 212.23.8.1 which was the primary DNS address advised by my ISP. This hasn't made any difference though-still get the "Cannot connect to server" message coming up on the T610.

Also, how do I set up the GPRS account to send receive email on T-mobile which would be the preferable method.

Thanks for any help.

I can't help you with any specific T-Mobile settings...

However, make sure that you use "internet" APN for the data account you use to retrieve e-mail. You CAN'T use "wap" APN (this might depend on your provider though.

In my case, I use 2 different GPRS data accounts. I use one with "wap" APN for the wap browser. The second account I made exclusively for e-mail. In that second account I use "internet" APN.

Hmm strange one. I've not tried over GPRS but I've managed to get email to work over dial-up by using Freeserve as my ISP. I had the same 'cannot connect to server' message until I entered the DNS address then it worked fine.

Have you tried using a different ISP?

Fritz 24

Thanks for that info.

I set up a new dial-up account with Freeserve and downloaded all the settings to my T610 via the "Email configurator" on the SE website.

Like you I found I still wasn't able to connect to the Freeserve server until I put in the DNS address. After that- BINGO - connected first time.

Still not sure why I can't get into the Zen server though.

Next task is to setup phone to send/receive email via GPRS on T-mobile.

Any further info. on how to do this gratefully received.

Cheers.
