I have a Vodafone T610 and am currently in Sydney trying to gain access to GPRS etc but every time I try to connect I get a message "GPRS Failed" then "Communication Error". I've had tech support sned setiings again and also used the online configuration etc all seem to make no difference. Does anybody know what needs to be done to get this working? I am wondering if there is something that Voda UK have not set up on my account to allow GPRS roaming but when I ask them they say it is all set up fine . . . . . . Voice Roaming works fine btw... Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The best I can tell you is that my UK vodafone sim card works fine when I am back home in Sydney. I don't recall setting up any GPRS roaming specifically, only the normal voice roaming. I don't use WAP so I am talking only of GPRS roaming with the "internet" APN. This much at least confirms to you it should work.

Your "from" says UK but living in Sydney. I would suggest getting a local sim card with GPRS access since your roaming costs can be quite astronomical (voice and data).

Hi,

Thanks for the tip... I do have an Australian SIM for my T68 but my T610 is locked to Vodafone UK so have to use the original one.

I've tried the Internet APN but still immediately get the "GPRS Failed" then "Communication error" message immediately on trying to connect to anything i.e. MMS or Vodafone live etc....
Something else I noticed is that the blue bar in the top left hand corner only shows for perhaps 10 seconds on powering up the phone before it disapppears so I was wondering if the phone is barred from GPRS?
Also, I got a new SIM when I got the phone but was told that I didn't need to use it unless the old one had problems... could this be anything to do with it? (I have no had the new SIM activated yet)

The behaviour of the blue GPRS indicator suggests your service does not have GPRS included. I had this happen once and vodafone removed GPRS from my account and then reactivated it and that fixed the problem.

Thats all I can really suggest for now, maybe someone else has an idea?

I spoke with Voda UK data support a few minutes ago and they said they could see the phone had updated on the network but that GPRS was dropped.... and suggest I call the billing company in case they have somethign on the account blocking my GPRS. . . . . . .I'll get them to try what you suggested with replacing the GPRS from the account when their call centre opens .... Fingers crossed...

Never in my life I have experienced such appalling customer service. I called again and got someone to check the settings for GPRS roaming etc.... was told they were ok and that
Voda: "there's no reason why it shouldn't be working"..... so I asked Me: "Where do I go from here then?"....
Voda: "Well I don't know Sir, it all looks fine from here"......
Me: "Do you have not have some sort of second level fault escalation process?"
Voda: "Voda: Well Internal Networks told me it was all fine....."
Me: "Yes, I understand that you are telling me it all looks ok, but my GPRS is still not working so can you not escalate this as a fault to someone who can look into it?"
Voda: ......... Silence for 20 seconds
To cut a long story short I spoke to a supervisor who told me the same thing I had heard before and removed and added my GPRS access and said to try in 2 hrs.... but to no avail.... I gave up for a few days but decided I am not going to let them get away with it.... But as always if any one reading this has any ideas please let me know... Thanks.
