T-Mobile UK GPRS Gruntles |

Wel I had the clever idea of browsing the web thru my laptop and IR connection with my T68i on T-Mobile UK.
The connection seems comparable to a 28.8/33.6kbps Dial up on webtests i did - http://homepage.eircom.net/~leslie/testpage.htm
Whilst I did kinda have an idea it cost 2p/kb I thought Id try and take a chance from what other people said that T-Mobile havent worked out how to charge for their GPRS yet (Or so I thought!), I browsed til i clocked up 1MB.
The next day I was shocked that my account balance was from 10p to £19!! Needless to say I wont be using that again!
I tried to blag it to an adviser and it didnt show up on his screen cept the 10p of calls i made, then he spoke 2 a billing person and they said it was for WAP but they couldnt distinguish between CSD or GRPS but said it shoulda been taken outta my free minues (im on Freetime 750), he said if it comes on the bill they will refund me, but obviously it will show up as GPRS
I dont know how they can justify charging so much! Im sure that the other networks prices per MB are summin like £7 wit no monthly charge from what ive seen (which i wouldnt ave minded being charged). I mean its not as if they are providing you with the data, just a connection. I guess I kinda knew the outcome, but someone with not much knowledge could run up a bill of thousands in a few hours/days without knowing it!
This is the 2nd time I have been disgruntled by T-Mobiles pricing and billing, the 1st when they set my call limit at £90 an then they totally cut off all services including the free voicemail, and then had the cheek of asking you to pay the bill on the spot so u can resume service even thou they got my bank details and can take the bill by direct debit!
So basically, if I ran into my £90 limit within the 1st week of my billing month, then I gotta wait 5 weeks (3wks billing month + 2wks for them to take money out by DD) to get my service connected again, unless I wanted to pay by Visa/MC. Fortunately, after having many irate phonecalls with them, they seem to have lifted my £90 limit, althou they never told me!
I was on Orange and Genie before and I never had any complaints about their service. I only got T-Mobile coz I got my T68i for £50 wen it was £179 elsewhere. Gues Im paying the price!
I also recieved my last months bill and they advertise that picture messaging is 35p per sent message, but I didnt see anything like that on the bill, even thou i sent a few messages, cept a Mobile Data charge per kb. So i guess they havent worked out how to charge per picture message?
Also I noticed that beacuse I sent picture msgs to other networks, they arent able to view it on their phones, which echoes the SMS battle a few years ago in the UK when you couldnt send SMS X-network.
So they increase their pricing + monthly charges with promises of free X-net calls and flashy phones that can send pictures to each other but if you dont have the same network, its useless!
Who wants to spend £30pm on line rental to call someone X-net 200 mins when you can go and buy a PAYG chip on their network and call them for cheaper? Maybe a bit more inconvienience but a hell more cheaper!
Just thought Id share my experience of the so called 'bat out of hell' experience that lovewalrus describes GPRS is

....NOT! (wel for me anyways)

First of all, you cant realy complain about charges for a service your not really supposed to be using, knowing full well you dont know the calls charges. If you check your T&C's of service, you will actually find that it advises you that a credit limit will be set, an inconvenience I know coz ive been there myself, but think of how much your bill would havebeen should they not have suspended your servcie for reaching your credit limit. Your picture messages can be found on your invoice and will be incorporated within your txt itemisation. T-mobile now offers a 10MB package for £20, so give them a call and give it some hammer my son!!!
Hope this helps

What a joke, Oranges HSCSD tariff is only 10p/min at all times, and is quicker than GPRS at the moment.
