my daughter managed to delete all the pictures, themes, sounds in one go on my T610 including the ones that came with the phone. My address book didn't get deleted and neither did the text messages.
While i restroed the ring signals from my computer via infra-red, how do i restore the 6or 7 message alert tones tones that came with the phone because theres no option for uploading message alert tones. Although the name of the message alerts is still there, when i select them there is no sound.
All my calender , tasks etc have become useless becoz allof them use these tones.
Are the message alert tones files of any particular format so that when i upload them they will automatically go to the right place.
I still haven't figured out how my daughter managed to delete everything in one go !!!

Why don't you back-up your data (contacts, SMS, calandar, etc.)? And then you could do a master reset, to bring back all those missing components. After that, simply sync back all those data from your PC.

Good Luck!

i think the best way around the problem is the master reset as rightfully pointed out earlier..........its also worthy to sync the data frequently in case of such an incident happenin again......as for ringtones and pix....u'll need to ir or them to a PC for backup....its time consuming at 1st but well worth the effort when shithappens....(no pun intended)...good luck mate...

all of you are missinbg the point that the master reset can only change settings, it cannot repeat Cannot RESTORE STUFF THAT HAS BEEN PAERMANENTLY DELETED. when i saw the phone after deletion it had 2900 kb free.Which means that more memory than the std. 2 mb was available because some of factory provided stuff like message tones etc. had also been deleted

A master reset will only restore what is in your ROM, the stuff that came with your phone when you bought it or during its last upgrade. It will, however, not bring back what you have installed or downloaded yourself.

If the stuff that was deleted came with your phone, a master reset will definitely restore it. Pre-installed items stay in the ROM and loaded into the phone when it's first turned on.

Since you didn't back-up your data, putting back your personal settings will have to be done by yourself and that includes tones, pics, themes and contacts.

I beg to differ.

T|he master reset will restore the phone to the condition you got it.

All those "missing" items are stored in the firmware of the phone and "copied" to the correct folders during a reset.

You cannot delete them from the firmware.

Unless I am wrong of course

As a side issue - how the hell did she manage to delete the predefined items!

There are several ongoing discussions here about that all saying that it cannot (easily) be done!!

Edit: Sorry - I just re-read your message and noted that the tones etc are still there - just do not work!

Still would be fascinated to know how she did it - have you tried hypnosis (or torture!)

i think some of you are not thinking hard enough- no disprespect intended- i am not tALKING ABOUT THE STUFF THAT I UPLOADED TO THE PHONE VIA IR, I AM TALKING ABOUT THE MESSAGE ALERT TONES which incidentally is also used by the calender reminder, timer etc and also the camera click sound is gone. What this taken in conjunction with the fact that when she deleted the stuff left 2900 kb free IMPLIES THAT PART OF THE ROM HAS BEEN DELETED. IT LISTS THE TONES ( MESSAGE ALERTS ) BUT WHEN YOU SELECT IT NO SOUND IS PLAYED.
How did she do it? Good question because when i tried to delete a picture ( small icon) it said predefined item cannot be deleted.
Hypnosis is a good idea, any thoughts on which esato forum i can find a good hypnotist who can work his stuff over the net?
I have master reset the phone twice after that ( settings only) but i know it won't work because part of the ROM has been deleted and you can only reset whats there, not whats not there

1) I don't believe that you could delete PART of the ROM and have the phone function.

2) AFAIK there is no user way of affecting the ROM (i.e. that flashed firmware) That takes special equipment. If a user had managed to do that - the phone almost certainly would not work at all.

3) You talk about doing a master reset (SETTINGS ONLY). We are talking about doing a FULL master reset. That is "reset all" and NOT "reset settings".

4) Failing any of that - looks like a service centre job to me

well Mr Mwright, crackerjack et al, it seems all of you are wrong. I did a master reset - RESET ALL - and guess what happned? It said i would lose my contacts and other stuff and i went ahead and did it and I didn't lose anything, NONE OF THE THEMES OR THE GAMES OR THE PICS OR TONES ( WHICH I HAD ALREADY RESTORED FROM the site a site.net midi files) GOT RESTORED AND I REPEAT- NONE OF MY TEXT MESSAGES OR CONTACTS GOT DELETED. However, the settings did get reset. NO I DID NOT DO A master reset - settings only , i did a master reset - reset all- i did it twice to make sure.
This means that the phone is unable to reset all, or that it is unable to restore the stuff that has been deleted although the first explanation seems logical because my personal stuff is not getting deleted which would suggest that the phone is unable to do reset all for some reason.
If anybody wants i can record the whole process with my Digicam and send it to verify that i am doing a reset all although holding a computer science engineering degree and having tinkered with eletronics all my life I should know what i am doing.
The intresting thing is that nobody has commented on why when the stuff got deleted was I left with 2.9 Mb free space.
Even now, I have 1370kb in used space ( my pictures, sounds , games, themes) and 1390 kb in free space. Thats a total of 2760 Kb. Doesn't the phone have 2MB or 2048 Kb of free space?Where did this extra space come from?
Lastly my daughter is less than 5 yrs old and she could not have pressed more than 4-5 buttons in a sequence- certainly not a predetermined sequence for deleting, the probability of that are too remote to be considered.
Incidentally i also talked to the Sony service centre in India over the phone and he said very dumbly that she must have done a master reset.
