Hi guys, my cousin just ruined my pc by surfing some porn sites by making the internet security option low. Now the problem is my Pc is infected with spyware and it has affected my (whole) desktop which keeps on poping some rubbish message like 'your pc might be infected with spyware or adware click here to check...' like some popup message when we surf the net. This is really pising me off.. Pls HELP (btw i am having XP).

Yes i to can recommend Microsoft AntiSpyware which you can get free of their site.

By far the best of all of them IMO

Search 4 bullguard or visit trendmicro.com\\download\\engine.asp

i find spybot: search and destroy to be one of the best if you have it set right. it also removes some recent file lists in the registry and programmes.

Make sure you've done all you're windows updates too, especially XP service release 2 (or whatever it's called!) if you don't already have it. That helps one hell of a lot too. Panda antivirus is also supposed to be excellent, and it can get rid of/prevent spyware too.

I've also recently gotten rid of Norton Personal Firewall and am now using Zone Alarm, a freeware firewall which is also excellent

called service pack 2 sammy boy. i recommend adaware and spybot s&d.

U can try the best apl. Ad-aware SE Personal Edition(www.lavasoftusa.com)or HijackThis(www.spywareinfo.com) but not for novices and of course Spybot(www.safer-networking.org)

@nitesh visit: noadware.net and get one of the good spyware removers its very effective

Sounds like you've got a dose of 'Antivirus Gold'. This is a very nasty one and usually has to be removed manually, although Adaware does get rid of some of it automatically. The instructions for removing it are here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.c[....]rus_Gold_or_AVGold-t22397.html

It's quite long and looks pretty scary, but it's not that bad really.

What's worse, even when you've got rid of AV Gold you'll probably find that you still have problems, particularly when you try to change your display settings or desktop wallpaper. If you do, post back here and I'll get you the fix.

@all shall i give a try on 'AD-aware SE'?!!... @cyco the link u gave is very confusing

Try it! Why not?.... Dont worry cos is the best of hunters

Now when i start my PC its says that my pc can't detect the file ' wininet.dll ' now i cant see any files on my desktop its totally blank, but now i can see my wallpaper..

Posted by nitesh
Any1 any idea about the application 'wininet.dll'. Pc says to download this app..

noadware.net has the best rated spyware remover try it

Posted by nitesh
I think the spyware is gone but the problem is that my xp can't find 'wininet.dll' app..

Posted by Sammy_boy
Is it causing any problems? It could well be a DLL put there by a spyware programme that Windows is still looking for - the spyware may be gone but there's still a reference to one of it's files in the registry or something.

Perhaps someone could clear that up - is that DLL a proper windows file or a spyware one?

Posted by Sammy_boy
Ah, actually, just done a search on my own PC and found that file in my 'Windows/System32' folder!

I stand corrected, it is a proper windows file. Do a search on the internet, see if it is a file that can be downloaded from somewhere like Microsoft? If it is downloadable, make sure it comes from a reputable site though!

Try repairing using your xp cd

Posted by nitesh
Its a windows .DLL file. Even my win98 has that file. Without this 'wininet.dll' file i cant operate my XP. Everything is blank expect my azul wallpaper.. No startup no icons no nothing :( .. Help!!

Posted by Cycovision
Have you still got the taskbar? If so, click start, then run then type in sfc /scannow

This checks that all of your system files are in place and not corrupted. It'll ask you for your XP disk.

Posted by nitesh
@cyco no task bar no nothing

is there any way to get the ' wininet.dll' ?

Posted by Cycovision
You can download it off the net, but that's no good if you can't get on in the first place!

Have you tried booting up in safe mode? Start the computer and keep tapping the F8 key until you get the boot menu.

personally I'd run at least 2 spyware checkers.
My main desktop runs Ad Aware, MS antispyware AND spybot. (Ad and Spybot picked up ALOT of stuff that MS anti didn't)
