I wanted to know if anyone is using the Z800 on Cingular and what sort of reception are you getting if any...I was planning on using it in Miami and Cingular can be a bit of a pain.

I have a a v800 that has been upgraded to a z800.

I have used it across the country with Cingular service with overall good results. Miami, SanJose, San Fransicso, Denver, Detroit, New York, Minneapolis, Seatle just to name a few.

I think you would get BETTER coverage with a 850 mhz phone compared with v800 but the 800 will work and it is a cool phone.

Thanks for that info comes in handy

When are any of the networks in the US planning on launching 3G? Z800 seems a bit pointless on a normal GSM network.

Well put it this way I know people in the UK that have 3G phones but no friends with 3G phones to call...so that is also classed as pointless. I bought the phone more for its cosmetic feel rather than its capabilites.

I live in the Bay Area and the Z800 works well for me.

Actually Cingular do have couple 3G network in the USA that was setup by AT&T Wireless before it was purchased by Cingular. I remember the plan was expensive you have to sign up for a regular plan on top of the 3G data plan.

But they using Edge so I guess the Z800i wont have the 3g function

Is cingular or t-mobilr, or neither, consistently better or worse than the other when using a non-850MHz phone? I need to choose a carrier and don't want to give up my k750. TIA!

In the case of the Z800 and K750, T-Mobile would be the carrier to go with. They use the 1900 Mhz band exclusively so everywhere you go, you are using the network to it's full potential. With that said, however, Cingular has a much larger footprint so even if you are only using a part of the network, you might still get equal or even better coverage with your Z800. It all depends on the area you are in.

South Beach is really bad man, you rarely get much coverage and you can forget it inside buildings like malls etc..

correct me if im wrong but EDGE is a add on technology to the exsisting network but 3G is a totally different network. themarques Cingular do have EDGE and they also have a small 3G network that work with 3G handset. Here's the link to Cingular UMTS page.
