Any updates on this?
There MUST be some hack to allow the 2G phone accept a 3G sim or something
Posted by SniperWolfUk
As far as i'm aware there is no 2G, it's called GSM!

3G is GSM too.
I dont think you can put a 3G sim in a 2G phone unless it supports it, and theres no hack AFAIK.

damn Three!
@sniper, there IS such a thing as 2G, 3G, 4G, and 2.5G.

2G equals mainly GSM and CDMA 2000
2.5G equals GPRS
3G equals WCDMA and CDMA 2000 EV-DO

2.5g also includes EDGE

Hi there..
I use TELE2-Comviq SIM Card in Sweden, its 2G/3G compatible SIM card .. working well without problems .. both in 3G and GSM phones ... i guess not all operators allow that.. so you should check out if its work or not cause i think TRE operator in Sweden for example dont allow thier SIM 3G Cards to be used in GSM phones.

I think 3 is in fact the only operator that 'forbids' non-3G phones on their sims... which in a way make sense because all other operators have a 2 or 2.g network and will still have your revenue even if you're in a diff phone where 3 must have roaming agreements, since all their money is in 3G network and services.....
My Voda 3G sim works fine in other models..... all the same my previous Voda 2.5G sim worked fine in my V800

a lot of confusion is caused by "3" network. They lock their sims and phones. 2G is GSM and 3G is UMTS. If you put a simcard (anyone exept "3") it both works in 2G phone as in 3G phone. So it is phone related if you can use 3G or not and not sim related.
edit: yeah what Vlammetje posted! Sorry didn't see your post yet.
