*cries*
I've got FOUR impacted wisdom teeth growing and i need to have surgery. I've been putting it off for a while.

Anyone had surgery for this before? Does it hurt? Will I feel anything?
How will I feel after it's been done?

Even though I dont feel him doing anything, Will I actually feel it snap off when he pulls it out or does he do something to soften it and pull it out nicely?

*cries*

thats not cool!
you're not being serious are you?

Those days are over. Now, the prior job of a doctor is to keep a patient free of pains. The dental surgery is performed with the help of just a local anesthesia. You will witness it yourself. No worries whatsoever. The doctor should be experienced. That is important.

I think it will hurt some and you might be sore for a couple days. I however am lucky enough to have a big enough jaw and my 4 wisdom teeth fit nicely and don't have your problem. My wisdom teeth are my only molars that don't have fillings.

Posted by amnesia
i'm sure i'll be soar after.
The soarness is not a problem to be honest.
It's during the removal that I'm worried about.

I wish I know how they would remove it.

I'll explain.

My two bottom wisdom teeth are growing vertically rather than horiztonally like a normal tooth. So they are pushing on the other teeth.

Whats worse is that they are under the gums so it means he'll have to cut the gum open to expose the tooth and then dig around until it can come out *cries*

Ask for general anaesthetic. That's what I had when I had some teeth out due to evercrowding. Mind you, I was 13!

Posted by amnesia
i will for sure.
I'll ask for 5 as well lol.

Just wanted to know what sensations I'd be feeling or blood gushing.

Posted by mustafabay
Youch. That's gonna hurt.* Closes eyes tries not to emagine* close eyes to sleep.

I had an operation for that and I had nothing, the first thing I did when I woke up was eating and allmost solid.

My cheeks weren't big at all, barelly changed and no pain at all ! Just 4 holes with sometimes blood and foods who get's in, disturbing feeling but no problem ! AFter 2 days I ate solid again.

I had a friend who was the opposite of me so it really depends on the person and how "strong" your body is.

Don't have a hot drink afterwards!!!! (Painful memory)

Posted by amnesia
oh really. So you had the same thing as me with the verticle teeth underneath the gums?

What did they do?
What procedure?

How long did it take?

Details please.

Look, the face and its parts are very close to brain. The pain will be shooting one. But with anesthesia you will feel comfort.

Posted by teamster1975
If you have a general anaesthetic you'll sleep through the whole thing anyway so it's not a problem. If you're fit enough, that's the way I'd go!

lol well the reason I'm worried is because when I had to have a filling replaced.
I was given an injection and it wore off before he finished so I felt sever pain (it was a deep one)

So I'm worreid it'll happen again.

And I also wonder if he will slice the gum and how will he take the tooth out.
I have a small mouth I guess.

dont worry mate youll be fine theres gonna be some pain not much though

Posted by teamster1975
Thump your fist down when you feel the pain!!!!
I'm lucky, I've only got one filling and that was nerve wracking enough!

Edit: Take some Kalms tablets with you to chill you out. It's always worse if you are stressed out before you even arrive! They really do work.

lol wont the Kalms tablets affect the anaesthetic or something?

Posted by teamster1975
Well failing that, smoke a big fat one before you go in!

Edit: Kalms are herbal they don't affect the injection.

Why don't you visit the dentist and get them to go through the procedure with you? They will give you another injection if it wears off, it's just hell trying to drink afterwards with wubbery wips

Posted by Jim
Yes, none of them was out so he had to cut in the gum, it leaves 4 big holes but that's all, of course you have those wires (don't know how you call that) which they will get off after a while.

Don't have to worry, you just have a blood taste for some days and you can't really use your teeths from the back but like I said, I could eat solid after 48 hours.

My "holes" took around 6 months to "fill up" but after the 1st one you won't really notice it. That's all I can see on what is bad about the operation

Do wisdom teeth make you wise? Anybody know why they're called Wisdom teeth?

Posted by Luke-the-magic-man
I once had it done, but it was only a cople of teeth being pulled out, all they did was inject my gum on both sides, that bit hurt the most, then they just sort of pulled them out, it was so painless I didnt knwo they ahd done it,

I once stood by while somebody's wisdom teeth were extracted, lending moral support, etc. It's relatively quick, over in minutes and doesn't hurt more than extracting any other tooth. Lie back, relax if possible and think happy thoughts...

well i've booked the appointment for tomorrow.
Theyll have to check my mouth out.
They said I might have to go to hospital if its too big of a job.

I had my two lower impacted wisdom teeth done on Saturday (16th) so am still recovering. However, it was absolutely fine, and i've been back to work for two days.

The sedation they used was amazing! I remember going in and having an injection in my hand, and everything after that until i got home is a bit of a blur. So far, there has been no severe pain, just slight discomfort and you really have to think about what you're eating. I wasn't really aware at any time of them cutting my gums or anything. I can't stress how easy the operation was, and how good the drugs they give you are. Sedation is the way to go.

The pain i had from the teeth before they were removed, was far far worse than having them out.

You'll be fine, go for it. Good luck!

it will most probably hurt, but it is never as bad as you imagine it will be

i had 4 teeth out as i had over crowding and needed them taking out before i had my brace fitted

i had one tooth taken out from each corner of my mouth, then my brace was fitted (train tracks)

i went throught alot of pain i will admit, but now i love the dentist

i know that sounds mad but it doesnt hurt anymore because i had that much done to my teeth i just dont care anymore

i was pretty lucky aswell i have all my wisdom teeth i got them when i was 15-16, they caused me no pain at all
