POLL question:
I was wondering, what's your smallest but decent bitrate for your mp3 or aac?
I compress my mp3s at 112kbps by 44100 using dBpoweramp
That's what i think is the most decent and compressed mp3 for my k750, and if u won't mind, kindly state the mp3 compressor that u are using...

128kbps U@ 44khz Using Audacity to edit the mp3 wave forms and adding certain effects to make it sound better thru the speaker and Lame and Razor Lame GUI to encode them.
Posted by deepy
i use dBpowerAMP with FAAC mp4 and put the quality setting on 40...usually ends up encoding them at 70-80kbps and the quality is great.

IMHO: 128kbit/s for MP3 and 64kbit/s for alternative formats (aac, ogg, wma, mp4, 3gp)
Posted by B.J.
Bout the size of the mp3? how small does yours go, and does it still sound good? mine can only go from 3.3-3.9mb on 112kbps/44100hz
btw, someone posted ogg??? hmmm... for k750 mate? or is just for symbian based fones...
btw wats the most compressed format a k750 can handle?(with the same quality and loudness, that is...) cheers!

m using 64kpbs for my k750i
Posted by blackspot
@silie, is that stereo? IMO stereo mp3s lower than 112kbps already has very significant quality degradation. For mono however even 56kbps is still acceptable.
Posted by silie
i think its stereo... m using advanced wma to convert my mp3 to lower bitrates... i think its still good quality...

The absolute minimum bit rate for me is 128K, but I normally use 192K. The K750 is a great sounding phone, I use it to the max
Enjoy the music!

It's a completely differet issue wether you want your mp3s for ringtones or to listen to them. For listening, you CAN'T really go below 128 kbit, but for ringtones almost anything will do, really. I personally use 48 kbit Mono (CBR) and they come out just fine.
I use the FREE version of WavePad suite, from http://nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html
Give it a try, very easy, powerful and complete solution to sound editing, and you can't really beat the price

for listening, mp4s at 96kbps isn't that bad IMO, but normally I use a minimum of 128kpbs stereo mp3s or 112kbps stereo mp4s.
Edit: I use either CDex, iTunes, or dbPowerAmp for conversion.

I am listenin on 40 kbps and yet no distortion using sound forge 6 can do a hell lotta things to the sound smoothen it enhance the volume and lot more try it outAverage file size 1.3 mb

Some of these low bitrates but with additional smoothing and effects might not sound distorted or too bad but surely they don't sound as the artist intended.

The best way to judge the quality of the compressed sound is to compare it with the original uncompressed file or any hi-quality version of the sound. It is important to maintain the quality of the original sound as much as possible. Most of the time the degradation of the sound when you compress it too much is very evident in the high frequencies like cymbals, strings, hi-note vocals, etc. -- they usually start to sound too artificial and lifeless, IMO.

I believe the #1 rule here is: There simply is NO substitute for LESS compression.
Posted by blackspot
It should be a compromise between size and quality.

Is mp3 better than aac? never tried compressing thru aac since i still don't have the software... ok... so how small can ur 128kbps go? mine 3.9 - 4mb.. depending how long the song... i read somewhere that the 512mb that comes with the w8 would have more ore less 300 songs, am i right? is that true or are they just enfautating?? hmm.. and what format might they be using??
Posted by ajape
512Mb is just that, no matter what phone or device uses it, it doesn't affect the card's ability to store more or less content

aac is better than mp3. it gives you same sound quality at lower bit rates- i.e. 128kbps mp3 is like 96kbps aac.
Posted by ares
Starting from 192kbs-160kbs original mp3 files, i used 96kbs mp4īs on my k700, and now i use 128kbs mp4īs in the k750
128kbs mp4īs sound fantastic

use itunes to convert to mp3...80kbs...ah well for more songs some sacrifices have to be made...
Posted by B.J.
then what's the best software i can use to convert mp3s to aac?? itunes?
@ajape- yup i know... what i wanna know is that what format is the w8 using to have 300 songs on a 512 mb memory..
Posted by blackspot
@BJ, if you try to fit 300 songs in a 512MB memory card that would require songs with an average size of 1.7MB each, which is not the average size of decent mp3s or mp4s. They are either short but good quality songs (about 1.5 to 2 minute each) or full length songs with very high compression (poor quality).
Posted by ares
a decent mp4 for someone with a 512 card, should have 3-4 mb (128kbs)
its my opinion
For ppl with the k700i, 2-3 mb (between 64kbs and 96kbs)
Software for converting mp3 to mp4/m4a (aac) :
itunes
nero
dbpoweramp

i use mp3pro 64kbps from mp3 pro is almost the same as mp3 128kbps
Posted by ares
Can i ask why do you use mp3pro??? No SE phone as decoder for taking advantage of mp3pro, so what you get is the same thing you get with a lower bitrate mp3 conversion
The way to go is mp4/m4a (aac), thereīs no other
But many people seem to like to make things more difficult...
And donīt say things like a 64kbs mp3pro sounds like a 128mp3 on a SE phone - thatīs impossible, for the reasons i gave lol

Nero?? hmmm... i don't thinks so... But, can it really?? don't really have an idea..

I think SO!!!

i use imtoo mpg encoder.
my bitrate is 64 at 48khz.its gud
Posted by blackspot
If it sounds good at that bitrate, it's most probably been downmixed to mono.

Had just finished converting most of my fave songs last night to mp4 with dBpoweramp...
how small does your mp4s get, my songs especially 5-6min songs only goes as small as 2.8-3mb ... but some are just 1.5mb+ depending on the song length.... btw, anybody done the 300 songs on 512mb- isn't these the advertising campaign of the w800? i have only gone 230 on a 512mb..
Posted by ares
2,8-3mb is a good size for mp4 with excelent quality...lower than that you will star to compromise quality...i only recomend lower that 128kbs bitrates for k700 users
Posted by Dj Boyi
If u ask me,96kbps @ 44100 is the best compromise,great quality at a decent size ;-)

Posted by mrao
