SonyEricsson repair USA (RMA) - any K750 sent in?

I sent my K750 in for repair here in the U.S.. It's been almost 3 weeks and they still have not repaired it. The problem was that it got stuck on 'SEARCHING' for network.

My question to all is, has ANYONE else sent a K750 in for repair in the U.S? The reps at SE tell me that since this phone is not sold in the states, they repair them on a best effort attempt.. so NO ETA can be given? Please help, any comments?

thanks..

ps> I have been EXTREMELY dissapointed with SE repair as well as the POS K750.. what horid quality

Yeah I sent mine in last week, they're still waiting for parts to fix it.

Mine had a fault earpiece, the lil speaker jarred during calls.

Also the RMA number initially issued somehow didn't get registered in their database and thus they had to issue a new one for me.

@riffola,

Thanks.. So you sent it in to the North Carolina service center I take it. Did they give you any indication on an ETA? I had a 1 hour call with a supervisor yesterday argueing because they told me that it can take a VERY long time, possibly months to repair. I was livid! I told them that if that was the case, they should of instructed me to send it to you european service center.. they said this was all they could do... can't even provide status, only 'WIP' work in progress.. I'm so pissed.. been without the K750 for almost a month now.

Let me know when you get yours back or your experience please.. I'll do the same.

eolivas,

Upon speaking to the SE customer service department for about 5 minutes I decided it was in my best interest not to let my k750i go anywhere near those guys.

I wish you two the best of luck!

@eolivas i see you live close to me. as you know we have NO close service centers, NC is the closest one. they take people who walk in before they take people who send theirs in. the centeres in usa slack off alot.

@eolivas
Same problem here, they received mine on Friday, but today they said they only received it day before yesterday, yeah right I have Fedex proof of signature showing they received it on Friday at 9:30 AM.

The problem is SE USA's call center is in Canada, and Solectron USA Inc, the service center is in NC, and they refuse to give me a number for Solectron to call in and ask what's going on with my phone directly.

I'm rather annoyed that such an expensive phone has firmware and hardware issues, and over and above that the local service centers are not very helpful.

I'll keep you updated with my progress in this thread.

Well, my phone was recieved on June 16th and here I am July 9th and still no change, only 'WIP'. I spoke with a supervisor again and she told me that there is absolutley nothing they can do.. so I asked what should I do, keep waiting for months? Finally, she said if this goes into the 2 months wait period that I can 'REQUEST' they look into it and they 'MIGHT' be able to find something out.

One thing, she did say they could send the phone back now.. how odd, THAT they can do immediately!

Let's keep this thread going with progress...

If they drag it beyond two weeks, I am going to request them to write off the phone as a lemon and send me a new one. I am not going to wait for months because they don't yet feel like releasing the phone in the USA.

good luck with that. you wont get a replacement. the phone is not native to NA and there can be a lack of buffer because of this. if you know someone in uk/europe, that is the quickest way by far to get your phone fixed. if its a software issue, thats no biggie, but hardware might not necessarily be available. the process for repair is at least 3/4 wks for a hardware issue!

7/11 status:
Still --> WIP <--

K750i recieved on 6/16

Almost a month and no update, no phone, no nada.

Hope you all have better luck with the North American SE repair center DUDS than I am.

Come Friday, I'm calling and going to give them a massive ear full if my status doesn't change.

The K750 is not native to NA, the parts are not readily available, there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. It isn't their fault you purchased a phone from another continent and can't get it repaired. As I said before, the quickest thing to do is ship in to a Euro repair centre and have listed a friends address over there to have it sent back to.

I called in today, the rep said my phone is "scheduled to be sent back no later than the 18th". Which begs the question, 18th of which month and year? May 2006?

Just got off the phone and I asked for my K750i to be returned. The A55H0LE supervisor said that he suspects the phone will take another 2 to 3 months for repair. He said the SOLECTRON staff has no parts and NO trained techs to work on K750i's. He said that they have not sent back ANY K750i's repaired ever.

to end this, I asked for it back so I'll send it off to Europe next for repair.

WHAT BULLSH1T !!!

SE// NA REPAIR ====> KISS MY A55!!!

exactly. next time just ask to ship it off the UK reapir center. that is what i plan to do when mine breaks.

Posted by eolivas
okay, my phone is being sent back now. For you all who were expecting parts this week, you were correct.. they arrived TODAY. HOWEVER, the supervisor told me that the parts which arrived were INCORRECT so there was no reason to keep my phone. It would not be repaired any time soon, possibly another month. He said that this error in shipment was going to impact many K750's in the repair facility.

I hope everyone with K750's in the NC repair center have better luck than I. I'm going to ship to the UK and hope for better results!

To clarify, the parts received at the repair centre were actually ones not required to repair your phone, the were in fact K750 parts. The parts received will be used to repair other phones, but in your case there was no ETA on the specific parts required to repair your phone. It is a pain, but within the next week or two the repair centre should have sufficient buffer of parts and phones.

WHy people never thought of repair issues before they buy any electronics that is not officially released in your country? Not to mention the SE phones are not supposed to have international warranty to begin with.

Posted by cam'ron
Exactely, NA is the only place that tries to honor a universal warranty. Clearly, it can only work to a certain extent, but they TRY and make it more convenient. Obviously phones like the V802SE you are going to be SOL, but that should only come across as logical. Try getting a NA phone repiared in UK, I don't think it's going to happen.

I bought my K750i after talking to SE USA and being assured that most of the common parts needed to fix the phone were in stock, and they would honour the warranty.

I was even told that SE USA would be selling the K750i on their site in July.

They're not doing me a favour by fixing the phone.

Same exact process with me. Faulty earpiece, sent it to SE. After it arrives there and they have it a week, I call to find out that it would be months before then can even look into it. They told me I couldn't send it overseas to have it fixed (at least as a US customer, I'm sure I could do it with a UK return address).

Local shops able to repair new phones are also unable to repair the earpiece/speaker, since SE won't let them have the parts needed. I'm really at a loss as to what I can do.

Actually the fact they're going to honour your warranty IS doing you a favour. The fact they're not making you send it back to the UK already and saying "contact where you bought it" is another favour.

They certainly don't do it in other places, after all there's no international warranty they recognise. (EU wide yes... but I hadn't heard of the US becoming part of the EU )

If you're prepared to be an early adopter you should be prepared for everything that goes along with it.

@Andrew:
There's no reason a service center wouldn't look at it in the UK as long as you can show a valid proof of purchase. It will has a warranty in the country of purchase, that can't be declined. Only thing they may do is charge you for posting it back, but you could always talk to them about that first.

Guys,

The US SE repair center acts like a SILO, they feel they are not liable to repair a SE K750 since its not sold here.. they make it sound like they are SOLECTRON, having absolutely nothing to do with SE.. They told me, we repair phones not sold in the US on a 'best effort', which means they may take 6 months to repair a phone.. I gave up and they sent my POS back unrepaired. Now I'm sending to the UK with a friends return address. He'll send back to me in the US once repaired. End of story. Bottom line, if your phone isnt sold in the states, don't even bother!

What the SE service centre in U.S. told you re. "best effort" is absolutely correct, and reasonable. The warranty conditions are clearly stated in the warranty document in ever SE phone.

R's Electrics in Tottenham, UK used to be able to handle warranty repairs from overseas (but with handling fees). But I think SE might have stopped using indpendent service centres.

I live right by the service center and was just wondering if i should bring in my k750 converted to the w800 since my joystick is being stupid. Will they fix it for a charge since opening up the k750 voids the warranty or will they not fix it at all because I did that?

Posted by ajsimeon
hmmm...actually I lied...i'm not sure if I live by the service center because somebody told me it isn't where i thought it was. Anyone know the address to where they sent it? Thanks

LOng time ago I sent my P900 in for repair. After everything was set and done it was 3 month later until I had it back. But only after I sicked the BBB on them. The problem is SE hires out the repair to an outfit that does many repairs/stuff for different companies. So they are not really in control what is going on and have no clue about the real status of something. It is sad very sad. So you better have a backup phone and lots of patience.
