Hello
Here in australia, i pay 2 cents per kilobyte (or 1cent Euro/US), thats around $20AU, or $10 euro/US$ for 1024k (1megabyte)
How does that compare to europe/USA?

Hi there! I am paying RM 0.05 for 10kb. USD 1 is RM 3.8 only. So you guys do the math. This is from the wireless carrier DiGi. On another carrier called Maxis. It costs RM 0.04 for 1kb.

u have many bundles to choose from, i got this one:
60$ for 200MB and each additional MB costs 1.6$
Posted by sebtek
sheeeh - we get it pretty bad off.....
and the thing is - i think we've had GPRS for about 2 years now - its nothing new.
and its not a lack of competition - we do have 3 networks offering the service.
apparently in some countries - you pay a different amount for web browsing (on a pda/laptop), than you do accessing wap sites. That would be carrier specific wouldn't it be? (i'll be using GPRS on my sony CLIE n710c PDA via BT)

10 euro for the first 5Mb then 2 euro/Mb

OR (you can pay the two options) :
6€ for unlimited wap access (but you can do only wap, no irc, icq, mail...)

Vodaphone in Sweden

In our country the GPRS is new (since may i think) and it costs 6$/Mb, or if you prepay 8$ (including 2Mb), than every Mb costs 2$.

With VoiceStream in USA we pay $3 for 1 Mb a month, then the next plan up is $20 for 5 Mb. This assumes that you use your phone as a modem aswell as access WAP pages. There's more data plans. I currently subscribe to the 20 dollar plan. So far so good...

In my country Mexico Telcel, GPRS is new since March and it's free so far. Yipee.

In our country one megabyte costs around 6$.

WAP - 3.6 euro/US$ per 30 day (unlimited)

here in malaysia gprs usage both by time and data.... RM0.10 per 10kb, its roughly US0.025 per 10kb...

i have an account with fido (www.fido.ca) here in Canada and they charge i think roughly $50 CAD/MB ($30 USD) if you pay per kb..... or *UNLIMITED* for $50 CAD/month which makes no sense to me. So I just pay for the unlimited and use it all the time.

As I said before - I only pay £4 a month as orange has a billing problem - they can't tell when u over ur bundle at the moment!!! so its unlimited - all those poor people paying £30 a month for a bigger bundle!! haha
Posted by masterino
In italy, vodafone-omnitel:
€ 0,03 every Kb.
so, 1 MB cost € 30 for WAP browsing.
web browsing (with a notebook connected via IRDA or similar)
cost € 0,006 every Kb
but it will be rounded to the upper 10Kb.
(i.e: if in one single connection you use only 2Kb, you will pay 10Kb.)

In Greece with TELESTET is free until 31/12/2002!I have already downloaded 150 mbytes!

Has anyone not realised what a rippoff these prices are?
In UK it is 2p kb!!!
that means, and correct me if I'm wrong that a 3mb mp3 would cost
around £60 to download!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK not it's primary use, but they do mention music downloads in there advertising.
1 WAP page from my site (10 pics 3kb each) would cost 60p to download....60p for 10 101X80 pics...hmmmmm, something not quite right here.
Hello (bangs on head of corporate telecoms CEO) what are you thinking?
Posted by EddWo
do you think a UK network will ever have an unmetered bundle, it'd be worth paying £50 a month for, Using GPRS is faster than my normal modem, but at the current prices it is impossible to imagine using it for more than 2minutes at a time. I certainly hope they don't continue this rediculous level o pricing when 3G comes round. The prices are ok for simple phone based wap access, but they are marketing it as so much more than that.

EDDwo - its aimed mostly at business users in UK - big corporate customers - there is a £500 gprs bundle on orange!!!!! f**kin crazy
Posted by pinin_d
is it not a good idea to use gprs then?? as i have just got my phone and thought if it is on and better then best use it, but not at that price!

@orangeman, for that sort of money you could ge a wo way satalite connection, not very mobile i know but it will work anywhere. If these mad pricing schemes continue into 3G is definately won't be worth it. I don't care that the government ripped them off over the licences, this sort of pricing structure is extortionate.

yeah well - i've finally got my palm Sony CLIE set up with GPRS.
Yes - at the moment it is a rip off - in most countries. as there are only 3 carriers in AU, they form an oligopoly (probably the same in most countries), and i doubt prices are going to go down for sometime. GPRS is a very new technology, and would you care to remember how much people paid for mobile phones about 5 years ago - certainly a hell of a lot more, than they do today.
We can't really do much about it - we'll just have to wait.
thanks,
Seb

orange will soon have an 'unlimited' gprs bundle for wap only @ £4.00 per month - 'unlimited' meaning a fair use policy of 10mb - which in comparison is a bargain!!

The Swedish TELIA network offers a few fifferent rates:
1: $10/month for 5 Mb
2: $30/month for 25Mb.
I use the first opption as I dont do much mobile websurfing, mostly WAP.

In my country our only GPRS capable operator gives it for FREE. No date set for when they'll start billing.
Dialog GSM is the best.

In Hungary we have 3 operators, the one I'm on (Pannon GSM) is the best! There are two possible GPRS WAP payment methods:
(1) Pay per kilobyte, then it's €0.00104/kbyte after 6pm (very cheap!), or €0,00333/kbyte between 8am and 6pm.
(2) Or,,, (since the middle of this month) you can pay €2.20 monthly for unlimited WAP access, and that includes data-call based WAP also! My T68i is almost constantly online, I have it check emails every 5 minutes
Best deal in Europe, I think.

@orangeman
£4.00 unlimited GPRS bundle.
What exactly do you mean, "WAP only"? Does it just exclude surfing the web on your laptop, connected to your phone via GPRS?
Any idea on when "soon" is?
Posted by wapchimp
only acces to wap service - still need a separate GPRS bundle for e-mails/web connection

AT&T WIreless in USA. $8 for 1mb, $13 for 4mb, and $20 for 8mb. It goes up from there. Its a new thing in the US. I'm in sales and people in the US are very stubborn at adopting new technology. I still have a hard time selling people SMS service.

Well here in sweden comviq has free gprs and unlimited amount MB at the moment. Will be about 4,9us$ later on for 3mb and then 2,1us$ per extra Mb. So seems like sweden is pretty cheap with gprs.
