the card was brand new, someones gotta know how to solve the problem?

I guess it would take hours (more like 6) to transfer 512 mbs of data thru the usb. get a card reader-it can also format disks.

How come my v800 detects the card, but wont let me format it via "Settings, General, Format memory stick"....its all greyed out and wont let me select it I'm totally confused. Ive been on this case for like 3 days now. When i go to the camera it says "memory stick not formatted". But it wont let me format it, arggghh. Ive done so much searching trying to find out the problem, its unbelievable.

Isnt their any software i can use to format my memory stick? I need the tab 460mb to format it correctly, why on earth is it coming up "capacity 992mb?" Its a 512mb memory card?

When the card is in the phone and you look at discmanagement in windows, it wrongly assume it to be a 1gb card.

We dont know why but the same thing happens on K750.

Therefore take the card out of the phone and put it into a cardreader and perform the format there. Remember to format as FAT not FAT32

but it doesnt give me the option to select the correct capacity 512mb (460mb) format mode in the drop down menu. Only 992mb and nothing else. It does let me change and select the file system from NTSC, FAT32 and FAT. But when i try and format in any of thse formats it says "Windows was unable to complete the format". Is there any software that will let me input "460mb manually"?

Why FAT and not FAT32 ? I format all my sticks FAT32 and they work excellent.

To koski316: I suggest too, use a card read/writer and format it with that. It makes more sense then trying it otherwise. The phone obviously screws up the reading of the stick and if you run it through pc, the PHONE still is the medium for windows to see the stick.
Use an usb read/writer and you should be able to format

if you have a sony cybershot camera. you can use the msduo adapter and format your msduo using the camera.

Because the phone works better with FAT, more compatable/reliable, and because the FAT table are faster, small volumes as memorycard should be formatted using the FAT table. Thats why new memorycards that come preformatted are formatted in FAT.

Yo guys,

I just bought a san disk memory stick pro duo 1GB.
I formatted it on my PC (FAT32),
but when I inserted the ms in my mobile I could use it.
It said it needed to be formatted (camera).
Then I tried to format it on my V800 but the option to format the ms was unavailable.
I've read this topic and I formatted my MS in FAT.
And now I'm using my MS without problems.

I thought I'd post this so this might help some people.
