For all you tennis fans wanting to talk wimbledon...go ahed, here's the esato wimbledon tennis tournament thread!!

Henman through today ...

Posted by etaab
He'll be out in the next match.

I'd like Sharapova to win again though - if she doesnt get kicked out for screaming too much every strike.

Posted by mak_attack
i think a Russian double is a possibility.

Sharapova and Safin (played well y'day)

Posted by jenbones
I hope sharapova stays in for the views...

Safin can't win, phillipousis, then the spanish man(forgot his name), then will be hewwit, then would be federer, then would be roddick if seeds go according.

Me too, personally i hate tennis, but she makes it worth watching.

Posted by jenbones
Is kournikouva still playing?

Posted by tombadier
No afraid not

Posted by jenbones
I see enough of her on magazines anyway lol

Posted by axxxr
Henman had a very close shave today, not a good start for a first match...What is it with crappy british tennis players anyway?..We need worldclass players like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.

Posted by PeterKay
and Jennifer Capriati

Posted by vanquish
Crappy British players? ExCUUUSEEE me. An 18 year old who kicks ass, and Henman who is THE best volleyer in the world. both are supported by statistics. I agree, we need more females but the male generation is getting better. Sure henman ain't the best but he's still up their with them.

I hope this doesn't turn into a Henman is good versus Henman is bad thread, or one of those DROOOOOL SHARAPOVA. Although, having seeing her get a ball out from her pants i do quite believe that a topic on her isn't a bad idea

Semi Finalists, male: Roddick, Henman, Hewitt, Federer.

Semi Finalists female: Serena, Venus, Sharapova, Clijsters.

Finalists male? Federer, and either Roddick or Henman
Semi women? Sharapova and Venus.

regards.

Vanquish the day a british player,Male or female wins wimbledon that day i will believe that we have some talent in this country so until then sorry but i will stick to my previous statement.

In regards to a Sharapova thread,i am with you on that on that 100% ..So in the old tradition of things: Here is one i made earlier and Here

Posted by vanquish
sorry my friend to have to say this, but in a match, who would win, you or henman?

Federer may be from your country, but i've seen him in person and I bet you ain't

Posted by haynesycop
i can understand were people come from regarding tim henman

but at the end of the day he is british and we should support him whatever

no i dont think he will ever wn wimbledon but you never know

did anyone think liverpool would win the champions league from 3-0 down

no neither did i but they did

it is sport anything is possible

andrew murray is a talent so once tim henman bows out we have a great prospect for the future

good luck to all brits at wimbledon

Posted by axxxr
Its a great bristish tradition to be rubbish at sport!

Until and unless a british player wins Wimbledon i will think like this.
Sorry but i have absolutely no faith in Tim Henman,he may be british and i do support him when it comes down to it but i don't think he has that extra something to win big...and that is pretty much my belief in all the current british line up...I think we need a different and seperate approach to this if we are ever going to win wimbledon.

Posted by haynesycop
i agree with you in many points if not all

but you never know

it is doubtful he will win it now

his best chance was when he lost to ivanesivic a couple of years ago

he is 30 now so not much chance

but andrew murray is 18 so has many years and he will get better

so a good chance in him in the next few years

Posted by axxxr
Well Andrew murray has a chance to shine this year and show if he has any potential to cut it...you can usually tell if a player has that magic or not quite early on,as with Pete Sampras.

I gave up on Tim after that final match with Ivanasavich.

Posted by haynesycop
so did i

too many rain breaks and delays

it was his best chance and the best draw he had

the men have such a hard draw this year

Posted by jenbones
If tim Henman got his serve together, he could step forward and volley easily, and would pottentially be in the top 5 again.

England i would say are in the top 2 in world cricket. Henman has the extra something but he isnt good enough, who is the spanish guy whn has never lost a pro tennis game?

Posted by djpowelly
The ashes are ENGLANDS!

Anyway, yes, Henham put the whole of tennis following britain through about 3 hours of sitting on the edge of their seat (no change there then!). Yes, but he will be out next round!

Is anyone going anytime this/neext week? I think i might go up on Monday!

Posted by vanquish
I hate you djpowelly! Stop spending your wads of cash and give it to me

MURRAY VICTORIOUS OVER R STEPANEK OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC AS HENMAN CRASHES OUT !

Murray wins 6-4 6-4 6-4

Beating the 14th seed when he is 312th!!!

Posted by haynesycop
a great achievement for murray

i am delighted for him

Posted by axxxr
Yeh nice one Murray....lets see how far this lad goes?

Posted by vanquish
Very far! And axxxr, is londinium london?

Posted by jenbones
Murry through, 1st wimbledon and hes the furthest in britain

Posted by etaab
Every year when Henman gets knocked out of Wimbledon, i always have a little giggle to myself.

Sorry Henman fans, but IMO he is useless. If he ever wins Wimbledon i'll eat my own hair - and you can hold me to that.

@etaab: agree with you 100% on that one!

Posted by jenbones
Aussies arnt on form are they!

Posted by vanquish
@etaab

WHY THE HELL IS EVERYONE SO RUDE ABOUT TIM HENMAN, HE IS NUMBER SIX IN THE WORLD! NUMBER SIX! SO WHAT IF HE DOESN'T WIN WIMBLEDON HES A TRUE BRIT

And watch out for Murray you australian farts!

Posted by gelfen
ROTFLMAO!

@jonsey: apparently you missed the last match

@vanquish: i agree. if henman won wimbledon he'd have to give up his passport!

Posted by vanquish
Mark Philipoussis has never won it so THERE. And Hewitt fidgets all the time.

Andrew Murray is going to be great, he'll probably lose his next match but he will be back!

Posted by gelfen
hey, aussies don't even like "the poo"

the hewitt kiddy might fidget, but he has won it before and more to the point he has a wife you wouldn't kick out of bed if she farted.

anyway, i'm on the murray bandwagon (anyone except federer!)

Posted by vanquish
Aw, federer is cool! I really like his play.

Posted by gelfen
yeah, but it gets boring when the same guy comes out and wipes the court with his opponent in every match

Posted by PeterKay
Its Murray Mania this year

Posted by methylated_spirit
I cant believe the hype! The f&*Ģing media again! Poor kids career is going to be strangled before it rteally takes off. one victory, and the country is going bananas! Cant believe it. Mind you, its good to see a Scot doing well!

Posted by axxxr
Has anyone seen these new Ann Kournekova tennis shoes?

Posted by BobaFett

We're rude about him because the media intentionally make out hes a tennis star. The reality is, hes only just an average pro tennis player, if not mediocre.

"Greasy Reg" as he is known to his customers, down my local chippy is a true brit too, but does that mean i cant be rude about the fat balding pee-smelling old guy who fries fish in an Union Jack vest ? i sure can.

@methylated_spirit its the same thing in formula 1. david coulthard has been there for years and he's a very good driver who has won quite a lot of races. the second and english driver comes along the comentators are sucking his arse. Jensen button hasn't even won a race yet and they are going on as if he's the best driver to come out of britain.

Posted by etaab
Heh, ive never rated Coulthard high anyway.

I think his square jawbone must make wearing the helmet far too uncomfortable to win a F1 race.
